A guy who hits 30 homers in our line up? hmmm let me think? Of course we should. Depth is the key to success.

With Cano we can keep winning even if Hanley gets hurt again. 10 years only means in 4 we can trade him to a team that wants him and they don't have to worry about signing him to an extension or whatever. Teams like that. They like guys under control so it makes it easier for the Dodgers to trade him down the road. So ten years means nothing unless you are the team aquiring him in 3 or 4 years.

Blog in 4 years Cano would be untradeable. baseball is turning into where young prospects are valued a lot more highly than aging overpaid veterans. You are starting to see that come into play now, so Ned has to be careful with giving long term deals unless it is an extension for Hanley or Kershaw.

That is my point and if we give him a 7 or 8 year deal dude will be 40 before it ends and he wont be producing at this rate throughout that contract.

I'd offer 5 years max and that's all. Cano will score a longer term elsewhere.

I would be fine with 5 years nothing over that though.

Anything that would make Cano an EX-Yankee would be fine with this Red Sox fan!

Of course it would! Question though. Wouldnt you rather they overpay to keep him and have a bad contract on their hands for years?

No.

I don't want potential All-Stars on the Yankees whatever their salaries.

I want the Sinstripes to finish LAST every year!

I get you but look at what bad contracts are doing to teams like the Angels and Phillies right now. Overpaying Cano could have that effect on the Yankees theoretically.

With the way things are going with the Yankees this year they will need a lot more than Cano to be a real threat. They are getting older and have holes to fill.

True they need starting pitching badly and will need a third baseman for when Arod does serve his suspension.

Not to mention help with the BP. Look what they've done against Boston the last two games.

True Silas but Boston has been playing really good baseball lately. I think their starting pitching is atrocious with Phil Hughes in the rotation.

Having watched my Bruins get not just beaten but THRASHED so often in the years Jeremy Jacobs
tried so fanatically to keep the team's payroll low, I can assure you that stinginess hurts a team worse than overpaying does.

Jacobs's sons, who are now running things, do seem to have learned from their father's mistakes, thank goodness.
