The Washington Post has won two Pulitzer Prizes for it's coverage of the Alabama Senate Race and on Russian interference in the 2016 election.

...“These days journalists need a soul and a spine, and the journalists who worked on these had both,” said Martin Baron, The Post’s executive editor. “They had a soul in seeking and finding the truth, and they had a spine in that they overcame deceit, denial, obstruction and threats. They stood strong throughout that.”

Our newspapers should be a cherished guardian of good reporting and accountability. They aren't perfect and deserve fair criticism for their mistakes, but they protect democracy and TRUE journalists (step back Fox News and MSNBC) are an essential part of democracy.

If you don't already... subscribe to a damn newspaper. It's important.

I bought an on-line subscription to The Athletic (not to be confused with The Atlantic, by the way :) ) - Excellent sports writers need support as well.

That's who Portzline writes for. Can I get a subscription for everyone besides him?

Isn't this cutting off noses to spite faces to some degree?

At any rate it's just politicians acting like children for the most part.

I don’t have any skin in the game here other than I think it’s important to get our goods to market one way or another and a possible pipeline leak sure seems like a nicer alternative to Lac Megantic 2.0.

What I’m not quite understanding is what Trudeau is getting out of any of this. He’s risking a shit ton of votes in BC to placate a few seats (most of which he’ll almost assuredly lose no matter what in 2019) in Alberta, he’s reneging on a campaign promise, he’s going against his own environmental pledges and he’s giving the Federal NDP even more to hammer him with and split the vote on the left. I don’t get it.
