He could, but isn't now. Ackley could as well per college and minor league numbers. Still waiting on Adam Moore and Jeff Clement as well.

So Miller is on the Smoak/Ackley sliding scale or the Zunino sliding scale? I am just trying to keep up on who deserves what from fans.

Seems easy to figure out

Smoak- 3,200 Pro ABs (MLB and Minors)
Ackley- 2,900 Pro ABs
Miller- 1,650 Pro ABs
Zunino- 1,000 Pro ABs (510 at the MLB level)

Zunino was rushed. He doesn't have forever but he has this year.

Zunino's one of the best catchers in the league.

StatCorner Catcher Report

I have little doubt that he'll become one of the better hitting catchers in the league within the next couple of years as well.

So you show me a chart where Zunino is rated 3rd and Rene Rivera rated 5th but Yadier Molina is rated 50th? Interesting.

This argument has nothing to do with "The momentum killer" Miller. This is about Zunino, and the fact that at this very short portion of his career he deserves a pass. There are way more storylines that come up before Zunino and his growing pains. Ackley & Smoak, they are grown and it's very painful!

Sorry, but if he is a major leaguer he needs t at least resemble one at the plate. He is so clueless it makes Brendan Ryan look like Wade Boggs. Yes he was rushed and blah, blah, blah, but if we are going to giv him a pass then we need to give everyone else one on the team.

He may call a good game, not sure what the difference was between him and Buck when each played, but he can't handle throws to the plate and he doesn't exactly have an arm base stealers fear.

I have to go with Cezero on this one. Mike Zunino's catching defensively has been extremely valuable, Felix is getting more called strikes this year than he ever has in his career. Zunino's hitting has been mediocre at best, but he has been rushed and has shown the raw ability to be a 25+ HR hitter. Zunino has 19 HRs in his first 132 major league games, his ability at the plate will improve over time, but the raw ability is certainly there.

There is no doubt IMO that no matter how bad you think Zunino is hitting, his value at the plate certainly compensates for that.

3rd in what category? Zunino's rated in the top 3 in almost all of them.

you really need to just stop, bro.

I say that Zunino and Miller both a fair amount of leeway. Although Zunino has longer because he is so good defensively.

As I have tried to remind people, Brad Miller has continued to improve from his abysmal start. Since June, Miller is hitting .255/.327/.409 with 5 HRs (Which projects as 20 over 162 games). Those offensive numbers are really solid for a SS, especially one that has only played 163 games.

Yeah, as far as his catching goes, it's absurd to even argue with somebody comparing him to Buck. Done with that nonsense.

Talking about his hitting is open to more subjectivity. He looks downright silly against RHP, and may never learn to hit them, but I'll take 20+ home run power in an excellent defensive catcher any day.

And Molina 50th. How is that an accurate system? There is not one GM that would say Zunino is better than Molina on defense (or overall) yet the site you provided said 3rd vs 50th....bro.

You are right I should stop since I have yet to see any real proof that suggests he has made a difference. I know proof is a lot to ask over opinion.

I would be annoyed with Zunino if he was in the 1500-2000 MLB at bat range and hitting like this but he really doesn't have many yet. Miller I want to be upset with but he's also lacking the MLB at bats. These guys need lots of at bats to learn how to adjust pitchers adjusting to them.

Jones gets pretty much all breaking pitches now but so far he's been able to adjust to it which is awesome, I hope he can keep it up. I wish guys like Miller could do the same.

It would be great if we had hitters who could hit right out of the gate (like Trout) but that rarely ever happens.

There are 11 rookies (minimum 150 AB's) batting .270+. Jones is 11th at .270.

2013 15.
2012 18.
2011 20.

please

if yanks fans had an offense in the bottom 2 in their league in so many stats, they'd be bigger whining bitches than they already are all of the time

even in your off years, $200 million can only go so wrong

don't let the door hit you on the way out of here, girlfriend

When you look at the rest of Jack Z's catching choices (Adam Moore, Rob Johnson, Olivo, Henry Blanco, Josh Bard, and John Buck) you'll really appreciate Zunino.

Adam Moore was a great ball player that was destroyed by the Mariners organization. When you destroy a players confidence then his career is shot. Was he an all star, most likely not but the Mariners handling of him was atrocious and a primary example of why they are in this situation.

I can root for whoever I want to.

Been a Heat fan since Hardaway & Mourning. I'm not going anywhere.

Who makes up these rules that you can only root for teams in your home state?
