Assuming the 31% is accurate, that does not mean that there is a double play 69% of the time though. Panda is the kind of hitter who will get the bat on the ball more often than not, but is susceptible to the GIDP normally. So putting on the HnR with a molasses runner on first is pretty sound.

I don't even know if it is accurate. that is what the announcer said during the tigers/orioles game yesterday.

Does grounding out but moving the guy to second count as the success rate?

Boch was 2 batter late with that hook. The Nats had him timed.

I think Boch was gauging the rookie's effectiveness in the moment and how he responds up 3-0. I think it is safe to say that he is great to bring in with men on base, but seeing 1-2 batters max will maximize his effectiveness, not allowing batters the ability to time his fastball.

He was going to give his rookie pitcher the option to let him go out on a positive note. Manager shows faith in you from day one, you would go through the wall for that guy in the future.

All good questions. If success is defined by a true hit (the hitter gets a hit) and the runner running, I would say 31% is a pretty solid percentage considering what we know about balls in play.

Exactly my thought. That's actually a great % if only hits count.

Because then you can have outs that either advance the runner or don't but atleast don't result in a DP.

The strike em out throw em out or line drive DP is only way it can really fail .

You should stop by the Giants GDT tomorrow. We certainly have a biased tint to our commentary, but it is pretty active and, if I do say so myself, rather insightful.

'Preciate it. I lurk that board on occasion but you guys are a pretty close knit group with your own verbiage I don't quite understand at times so I typically don't post too often. I am running a coaches clinic tomorrow all day, so I'm out for tomorrow but I'll check it out for game 3.

Zimmerman got pulled for Storen after Zimmerman walked Panik. Posey singled. Sandoval then doubled down the line; Panik scored, was a play at the plate with Posey. Was reviewed, was close, but was called out to keep it tied.

Zimmerman retired 20 straight and walked panik with 2 outs with 3 of the balls being very close to strikes. Pulled.
