Saban is never going to the NFL again.

He is treated like a deity in Alabama, by the fans, the players, the administration, and the media.

When you are making $7,000,000 with basically no hate mail AND they pay your expensive mortgages off, why do anything else? He has achieved the goal I wish I could achieve, be rich and have other rich people pay all of your bills.

I would agree, but I don't think it has anything to do with money. I could only see 2 reasons why Saban would leave for the NFL (in this particular order):

1) He wants to prove that he can be successful on the pro level. IMO, that is why he initially left LSU.

2) He has a "no brainer" job offer. In other words, the NFL team offering him a job has so much potential and/or has an amazing and young QB, that he could coach 3-5 years and have a fairly good chance at making it to the SuperBowl in that time period.

IMHO, Saban doesn't need money, and is in the final 3-5 years of his coaching career. Does he want to spend them furthering his legacy as a college coach with the best program in the country, or does he want to venture out and use his remaining time trying to prove that he can do it at all levels? I think Saban would have jumped ship a few years back if he really wanted to try the NFL again. He will retire as arguably the best coach Bama has ever had, and that is a pretty tough accomplishment when you are constantly compared to Bryant!

#1 is asinine. I hate hearing people say coaches wanna prove something. I doubt any coach on Saban's level is actually thinking about proving shit anymore. (Not directed at you belcherboy)

#2 is actually a possibility and I wouldn't blame him. However, I think Saban tried his hand at the NFL, has no interest in it anymore, and will retire from Alabama in a few seasons.

There will still be people claiming he's coming out of retirement to make one last go at the NFL. :L

Saban doesn't want to go to the NFL because his favorite thing about football is teaching and developing players(and developing them for more than just football).

And he's pretty good at that as well.

No NFL team (or player) would give Saban anywhere near the level of complete and unquestioned control he requires.

6 of the last 7 seasons he either won the NC or was one win away from playing for it all. I doubt any coach in history can make that claim. What a dumbass post.

 make that 5 of 7

Saban is never going back to the NFL:

1. He was an epic failure in the NFL. Left the Dolphins high and dry for Bama after he couldn't cut it and burned all sorts of bridges when he left.

2. He is one of the greatest CFB coaches of all time. Why leave that to go fail in the NFL again?

3. He is worshipped as the Lord Jesus Christ himself in Tuscaloosa making $7M + a year. Why in the fuck would he leave that?

4. Dude is over 60. He is retiring from the University of Alabama as its 2nd greatest coach in program history.

6 of 7. If they beat Florida in 2008 SECCG they're in. If they beat Auburn in 2013 they're in. If they beat OSU in 2014 they're in.

They didn't have to beat missouri after the auburn game in 2013 to get in?

"Hard time winning lately"?

As an Alabama fan I am not happy with recent results but in defense of Saban his team did go 12-2, lost to eventual and an obviously very underrated OSU by 7, and was one of only four teams left for NC opportunity at end. They did win SEC championship! They were #1 last year until some missed opportunities which he does not kick field goals and the infamous kick 6! He won 3 of the previous 4 National Championships before that! He sure has created one damn high standard.

I have never heard or seen once on the SportsHoopla as tOSU being UNDERRATED. Almost everyone was saying tOSU was overrated. You may be the first to ever use underrated and tOSU in the same sentence.:suds:

Yeah but that was also in an ACC that was even weaker than it is now.

Good teams and a good coach though. It's a shame that Alabama didn't hire him, he wanted to coach at Alabama and people were dumb. I'd have loved to have had him.

I don't think the strength of the ACC has anything to do with any debate of Bowden vs Saban.

Bowden regular season data 1987-2000 (14 seasons).
Conf vs AP top 10...........3-0-0--1.00 (0.214 per year)
Conf vs AP top 11-25...........11-1-0--0.917 (0.857 per year)

OOC vs AP top 10...........11-11-1--0.500 (1.64 per year)
OOC vs AP top 11-25...........10-2-0--0.833 (0.857 per year)

ALL vs AP top 10...........14-11-1--0.558 (1.86 per year)
ALL vs AP top 11-25...........21-3-0--0.875 (1.71 per year)

Saban regular season data 2008-2014 (7 seasons).
Conf vs AP top 10...........3-6-0--0.333 (1.29 per year)
Conf vs AP top 11-25...........12-2-0--0.857 (2.00 per year)

OOC vs AP top 10...........1-0-0--1.00 (0.143 per year)
OOC vs AP top 11- 25...........2-0-0--1.00 (0.286 per year)

ALL vs AP top 10...........4-6-0--0.400 (1.43 per year)
ALL vs AP top 11-25...........13-2-0--0.867 (2.14 per year)

So, Bowden played a tougher slate, better record, and for twice as long as Saban. The difference is that Bowden didn't have the BCS and thus didn't have a shot at the NC in most seasons.

An opponents strength doesn't just go to 0 at #26.
