Phillies signed RHP A.J. Burnett to a one-year, $15 million contract.
The deal also includes performance bonuses, a $15 million mutual/player option (with a $1 million buyout) for 2015 and a limited no-trade clause. Most figured that Burnett would wind up back with the Pirates if he decided to continue playing, but the Phillies offered him a lot more money and he jumped at it. The veteran righty will settle in as a fine No. 3 starter behind Cole Hamels and Cliff Lee.
Are you really surprised? I'm happy. At least it is somehow limited.
