The Phils are reportedly looking at making him the pitching coach. I've always liked him, even if he is an asshole, so I would welcome his return to Philly.

As long as he is not the same joker he was as a player. Being the life of the party is fine if you are a player, but that does not always translate well to becoming a coach or manager. Or, in even getting a chance to be considered one.
Well, he's been "considered" one for maybe 8 years now in the Braves organization.
Plus if McDowell is a character, he might not get along with Ryno who's damn serious most of the time. On the other hand, McDowell spent 6 years with the Braves so he must be competent. How about having him straighten out our triple A pitching prospects. Then instead of 26 year old under achievers Cloyd, DeFratus, and Martin (24), we might have guys like 22 year olds Wacha, Martinez, and Rosenthan who closed out the Sox tonite in Boston.
comon' man, cloyd, defratus, and martin are short on talent compared to those 3. I think only diekmann and biddle could be on par talent-wise with those 3 cards.
I don't think the three you mentioned are fair comparisons - the guys they need to be successful are Jake Diekman, B.J. Rosenberg and Jesse Biddle - Ethan Martin and Justin de Fratus would be nice too but it's those first three I mentioned that are most importantPlus if McDowell is a character, he might not get along with Ryno who's damn serious most of the time.
