He was not their backup. He was the highest paid player in the league I believe.

And I do t remember other teams trying to take on the contract. That wasn't a great move either. The Bills went from shit to .500 in year one. But they had to move that contract, so they did.

Trading Tom Brady to Buffalo would be the comparison imo.

Drew Bledsoe was not a backup QB in NE.

Uuuhh...what? Drew Bledsoe became the backup to Brady in 2001, and would've stayed that way had he remained with the Pats.

Ryan has been in the dumpster since 2016. He doesn't know shit except how to stir up trouble.

Bill knew what he had with Jimmy G so he traded him to SF because he knew Jimmy G could create problems for him in the AFC and he was confident that Jimmy G would stay in SF.

Also, Bill was doing the 9ers and Jimmy G a favor with the trade. He respects Lynch and Shanahan and he wanted to send Jimmy G to a place where he himself could thrive.

I think he could've easily gotten more out of the 49ers if he really wanted too but I think he choose not too.

Eh, could they have? The comp pick is a 3rd round pick at the back of the first round and the FT is obviously not tenable unless they move Brady; also not happening. 2nd is about as pricey as it was going to get halfway through this season before teams say "fuck it, we'll wait for him to walk." There's minimal leverage for the Pats compared to say this time last year. Can't convince me the Bears wouldn't have given up more than SF ended up giving up.

All Bill would've need to have done is tell Lynch he'll trade Jimmy G for a 2nd and 3rd or he's making phone calls to the Browns, Cardinals, Giants, etc.

9ers have 2 2nds and 2 3rds and they were high on Jimmy G so I don't think they would've hesitated to give up a 2nd and 3rd for Jimmy G.

<sniff> I want Jimmy back.
I know it wasn't in the cards though
Hard situation. You got a good player like Garopollo in the wings but ther is no way you hurry Brady out. He goes when he is ready. Dude is 40 and still playing very well.

This is the moron that predicts winning the title every preseason when he was a coach.

I have to say I found it funny while in the booth for last year's Super Bowl he said, "I finally made it to this game".

Its a shame though that they couldn't figure out how to get it to work. Could have been another "Montana followed by Young" situation

Or a Favre followed by Rodgers situation.
