Choo, Votto walked. No suprize. Frazier makes an accidental productive out in between, advancing Choo. BP 2 on one out...flies out to deep center, advancing both runners, but there are 2 outs now...Walked Bruce. Ludwick lines out, were done. Texbook...the only one of the 4 hitters that is likely to beat you that you actually pitch to is BP,not coincidentally the least HR likely of the 3...it's how to keep the Reds from scoring. If everyone does exactly the same, except say BP is 2nd, his flyball advances Choo just like Frazier did, and they'll still walk Votto, but they can't walk Bruce then- only 1 out. They have to pitch to the MOST likely HR hitter...he could have struck out or hit into a DP, just saying, it's NOT something they would PREFER to do. The lineup makes a difference, at least in how the opposition has to approach the lineup.

This lineup doesn't do that.

Votto up none on 2 outs, half his at bats in, zero chances to drive in a run without a solo job or seinging at a ball intended to walk him. Subtract his 17 Hr and he's had 40 RBI...Because, he gets half the chances of most 3 hitters. Pitchers have it all figured out.
