Rams cut Laurinaitis, Long, Cook in cap purge

Not surprised to see Cook cut. I am surprised to see Chris Long and Laurianitis cut.

Looks like they are shaking things up there.

Probably the most obvious cuts to make financially. Long couldn't stay on the field anymore and Laurianitis just got out played the last couple of seasons

this will hurt in the leadership department

all i can say about cookie is im glad he's gone

Not surprising at all. Rams had some of the worst contracts in pro sports. All 3 players were vastly overpaid, though Long might actually make someone's NFL roster at a lower salary.

Seriously, how does he still have a job?

I have nary a clue. They better get rid of him in the next few years though. It'll only take him 3 years or so to fuck off Gurley's career and run him into the ground.

Not only does he still have a job but the Rams are rebuilding to a certain degree right now so he is effectively on the 2nd rebuilding effort on the same team.

How often does that happen for a team that can't find a winning season?

Cook sucks, Long's body has broken down... but Laurianitis could still be a viable starter somewhere.

His old HC (Spagnuolo) is DC of the NY Giants... and the Giants need a MLB.

I suggest you go back and watch the Rams-Redskins game from last year. JL was taken out of almost every single play by either blocks or just a lack of speed and the Redskins ran all of the Rams because they had no presence up the middle.

Yeah, I recognize that JL is on the downslope of his career... but, in fairness, I did only claim to "viable."

If you look at the Giants depth chart ... he would almost certainly be an upgrade for us. That may be as much a condemnation of the Giant talent level on D as anything else, but an upgrade is an upgrade.

Long will have value as a situational pass rusher. A lot of guys. DE, have stayed around along time as a situational guy or a mid season replacement.

Cook probably is one of the most athletic TE in the league and probably the biggest underachiever! The guy will catch on some place because GMs are always buying hope.

Laurianitis ws good player that got the most out of his ability. Problem is the game passes those type by quickly.

As long as we had Fisher it is not working out much for us either, sure we are more talented but are not winning yet.

Some of y'all just forget all the damage Delaney and Martz left as a legacy.

When you have to use cardboard to cover your head at night, it's much harder to become the richest man in the world.

Just saying, he took over shit and 'yet' is the operative word in your sentence SE.

At least I hope........

We do have him for the next season, maybe he can prove himself this season but either way, he has never made such a bust trade deal as the Redskins did in the RGIII deal, maybe no one ever will. So for @Breed to be casting stones, he may want to look inward.

I don't put too much stock in these metrics, but Pro Football Focus had Laurianitis rated as one of the worst ILBs in football last year. He apparently missed a ton of tackles and was just bad. Not sure if he has lost a step or was playing hurt or what.

I agree it was a dumpster fire when he got here, but we need to start winning.

It was sad to see, if you got a body on him, he basically quit on the play.
