College sports is much more than just the sport itself.

To answer your question, I would rather have the t shirt fan be a fan of all sports or at least the major sports.

Lets say I watch college football(which i dont)... because i have no loyalties to any school, i would pick the team that i like to watch... It would not neccessarily be the same school i would root for in basketball...

Sometimes folks like the way a team performs and conducts themselves. I like Stanford and Notre Dame, wish them well and have never been to their schools. Also like the Miami Heat because of how well they move the ball and play defense. Nothing wrong with enjoying something of value and nothing wrong with rooting for a team that I have nothing to do with other than respecting their values and quality of their play.

Now the Gators, watch everything!....today the woman's softball team plays Alabama....have to see that as well.
