Kneeing, interference, it doesn't matter what they call it, it was clearly a penalty, and it has to be called. You cannot let guys get away with removing opponents from the play well away from the puck. That's why the rule exists. If Malkin gets interfered with, and a pass comes his way but he's not there to take it, and it turns into the game winner for the Islanders, well, that's precisely why the rule exists. As an official, you don't get to choose when to enforce them.
We would have had a powerplay for the last minute of regulation and into overtime, and the Pens were buzzing at that point in the game. There's a good chance that non-call cost us a really high probability of winning the game before the shootout.
Agreed, DS.
Boychuk saved the game for the Isles in OT when Letang had his chance but Boychuk stopped him. He should have been in the box. Officiating in the NHL is just mind-boggling. Zero consistency from game to game. Sometimes even period to period.
And the ironic thing is because the officials neglected to handle this play last night, you almost know the Pens will be hunting for either a star tonight like Tavares, or go after Boychuk himself. If they just made the damn call when it's right in front of them, it would avoid all that. It just increases the likelihood of someone getting hurt.
