The Penguins have been relentless in this overtime period. Tanger almost had the winner, but a great play by Boychuk denied him.

Man, lost in the shootout. The Islanders did little more than survive the overtime period, but they end up with the win.

If only Letang could have avoided Boychuk's stick...

Sort of feel bad for MAF, was really hoping he would get win #300, but he's also the biggest reason we lost so I don't feel too bad. Sorry MAF, you did not deserve the win.

Hopefully we could beat Halak with Greiss at Nassau. Maybe Cal Clutterbuck will be proven right :L

Also what's up with Sid? Completely invisible as of late. Even Blake Comeau & Steve Downie have been greater impact players as of late.

Horribly officiated game. Pens didn't draw one powerplay opportunity in sixty-five minutes of play.

Oh, and this:

Worthy of two minutes for kneeing one would think.

If the refs were trying to create a playoff like atmosphere with letting most everything go, I'd say mission accomplished.

Kneeing, interference, it doesn't matter what they call it, it was clearly a penalty, and it has to be called. You cannot let guys get away with removing opponents from the play well away from the puck. That's why the rule exists. If Malkin gets interfered with, and a pass comes his way but he's not there to take it, and it turns into the game winner for the Islanders, well, that's precisely why the rule exists. As an official, you don't get to choose when to enforce them.

We would have had a powerplay for the last minute of regulation and into overtime, and the Pens were buzzing at that point in the game. There's a good chance that non-call cost us a really high probability of winning the game before the shootout.

Also, something just occurred to me. Boychuk's a defenseman. The only (hockey) reason for him to have been down that low in the offensive zone would have been on a pinch to keep the puck in, but the puck was on the other side of the ice. He was way out of his normal position. So the only other conclusion I can reach is that he was intentionally trying to remove Malkin from the play away from the puck. He made it really obvious. And that makes it even worse for the refs to have missed it.

Good point. Sometimes I think Malkin takes a penalty because the other team is hacking him and getting away with it, somehow he thinks he should get away with it too.

I've liked Johnston overall so far, but scratching Despres in favor of Bortuzzo against a really fast team doesn't make a lot of sense. Every time he and Scuderi have been on the ice together, the Islanders have generated. A lot.
Scuderi and Despres have been fantastic working together. The only reason I can think of putting in Bortuzzo would be for his fighting ability and that didn't exactly work out either. Right now they have one too many D men and if you ask me, Bortuzzo is the odd man out. Trade him for a bag of pucks and a stick rack.

That was my thought as well, but really anything that Bortz added physically he gave away a lot more defensively. Agreed about him being the odd man out, but I think he is a good #7 because it doesn't hurt his development to have him playing sparingly and he is cheap.

Would be a good type of guy to move at the deadline when you assume they'll add a experienced 7th dman anyway.

Just indefensible non call, dangerous play as well, should be getting fined for such a hit.
