but why would you do that? Unless you think he could play a full season? and that would save what 500,000 on the cap? Just wouldnt make sense to me

Lets say he makes $6M base salary next year (I think it is around there). You convert $5M to a signing bonus, so he gets it quicker. This leaves his base at $1M. No reason for him not to do itas he loses nothing, but gets the $5M quicker. the benfit to the team is that His cap hit decreases by $4M as the $6M base is converts to $1M base which saves $5M. However, we incur $1M of his new restructure cap hit which is split over five years reducing the savings to $4M for 2014.

way it works is ... you cant convert signing bonus .... guaranteed money

when you restructure ... you take your base salary ..... and turn it into bonus

base for Lee would be 5th year around 800,000 ..... still gets all guaranteed money .... his salary money is what would be restructured .... and pushed to another year

not gonna save you alot of money either way .... and hurts your cap later

I know you can't convert his signing bonus. Convert his 2014 BASE SALARY to a bonus. Give him the money up front and it only adds a million per year to the outer years, but saves us $4M in the scenario I posted above.

I guess could be a last minute restructure option. We need to keep the restructures to a minimum.

Off topic.....for some reason this year I haven't watched very much college football this season. For this who Really watch and or just basing their opinions on the Kipers and the Mayocks, Who are the defensive studs who should be on the Cowboys Radar. Clowny what be there win we pick so don't mention him. Being this might be a QB heavy draft. We should be able to get our guy. I wasn't interested in Aaron Murray in maybe the 3rd, but know since he has torn his ACL I wouldn't touch him before the sixth.
