I thought this one was funny...

You Think the Burning of the White House Was Unprovoked
When British troops from Canada infamously burned down the White House during the War of 1812, they were merely repaying the outrage that American troops visited upon York (now Toronto) the year before, when they burned down the Legislative Assembly and looted the governor's mansion -- acts considered uncivilized even in war. Here: a drawing of the White House after its burning.

...because I don't think most Americans knew the White House was burned down.

Americans - 13 paid vacation days on average. Canada - 26. lol

That's true of just about every well-to-do industrialized nation in the world. Many of them have a statutory minimum of vacation days. That sounds pretty nice!

Over in Europe, they have many more paid vacation days, although that might explain some of the financial issues countries like Greece, Portugal, and Spain are currently experiencing.

cant look past the fact these countries government employees are highly unionized.

I think thats what skews the vacation day number stated above.

The 26 flex days alone that government workers get here on top of the vacation days they already get tends to scew things.

My dad works for Siemens (huge international company based out of Germany) and has 3 weeks vacation (which is good for an American), but I always tell him to complain to his German bosses that guys at the same level/position as he is in Germany are getting double his vacation time. His response "They get to drink beer during work too...it's not fair"

Yeah, yeah. He has a work jeep that says the name, and a few years back a couple of my friends got off the bus while I was getting the mail and just stopped...stared at it...and said "Your dad works for a company named Siemens?" "Yeah" "Stifled laughter"

We got 30 days a year while I was living in Sweden.

Plus 16 paid holidays and a few half-day holidays.

That was sweet!
