Simple question: looking at these two players, who is slower?

Big Papi

or Miguel Cabrera?

Saw Cabrera the other night and it barely looked like he was jogging to firstbase. Ortiz pretty much does the same thing... But I think right now Cabrera is slower

Miggy is faster. He's actually an aggressive base runner... too aggressive at times. But no he doesn't hustle down to first on a 1 hopper to SS.

I know he's the star player but at least put some effort into it! I mean we have all seen it a million times, a routine play that a player makes 99.99% of the time screws it up if they see a player hustling

I don't think seeing Miggy hauling ass to 1st is going to scare anyone into an error but you never know I guess.

True but it certainly can work on a rookie but then again you never know until you actually try it

Even Gardner busting it down the line doesn't scare Igalis(sp). That play Monday is not getting the credit it deserves because he made it look so easy.

Papi is but who cares? They both hit the hell out of a baseball and do u really want your star player pulling something running out a routine ground ball?

Seems like Miggy's groin is pulled about half the time these days (and he keeps playing, to his credit), but he's way faster than Papi if they're both "healthy".
Anybody remember Frank "Big Hurt" Thomas sort of running the bases when he was with the A's and Jays? He looked like a man with two ACLs hanging on by about 1mm of tissue total. That nickname was oddly prophetic.

No, you want your star player to play the game the right way and be an example.

I would say Papi is slower cause he's older.

But honestly both guys don't make their money by hustling the base paths. Don't loaf too much sure but keep your ass healthy so you can bash.

No one will ever be as slow as Benjie Molina. They timed him with a sundial and a calendar.
