Wow. He really thought his market was a lot bigger than it was. Really nice addition for Baltimore at that price.

Probably about what he is worth after the past couple of seasons. How he didn't take the QO boggles the mind in terms of just money.

Last 3 seasons:

124 games- 1.3 WAR
159 games- 1.1 WAR
109 games*- 1.5 WAR

That's a freakin' STEAL. I'm disappointed the Rangers didn't match it. Would've loved to see him DH in that lineup.

Yeah, surprised he didn't get that offer from Texas. Wonder if we didn't make the offer, or if he was jaded and wouldn't take it from us. Either way, that is a HUGE get for Baltimore.

And Texas gets another pick :suds:

They offered him a qualifying offer of 14 million. He thinks he's still a good outfielder. He would've been dh for Texas.

Don't forget he turned down a 14 million dollar qualifying offer from Texas.

I can't say I view this as anything but meh. Wasn't really that good of a player. Signed for roughly market value.

He gives them a deep ball threat that can be scary good at times. Problem is, he's highly strike out prone and very streaky. Also, his only defensive asset is his arm.

There you go, you just summed up why Cruz is a meh player. No accident that his WAR is meh too. Probably a DH on most AL teams.

Problem is, he thinks he's still a good outfielder. Hence the reason he left 6 million on the table with Texas.

All that being said, 8 mil for one year is a bargain for the O's. If they decide to go all in on Ervin Santana, they have suddenly become quite competitive.

Yeah. 1/$8M seems reasonable, but I'd hardly call it a bargain.

Cruz might not even be the most overrated player on his own team (Markakis).

For an extra $6 million, I'd gladly hit 4 times a night and enjoy rest of the game from the dugout

The team that bites on Santana is going to be buying fools gold.
