Good luck to the kid.

An AHL sniper is headed to Finland.

Nicklas Jensen agreed to a one-year deal with Jokerit Helsinki in the KHL on Wednesday, with an option for 2018-19.

The 24-year-old forward ranked second in the AHL with 32 goals for the Hartford Wolf Pack this past season, one behind Wade Megan of the Chicago Wolves in three fewer games.

Jensen got a qualifying offer from his parent club, the New York Rangers, meaning the team would retain his rights should he return to North America.

He appeared in only seven games for the Rangers this past season and was a restricted free agent after signing a one-year deal with New York last July.

Jensen was drafted 29th overall by the Vancouver Canucks in 2011.

So, do we call him Yensen now that's he's back in Europe?

:D

Yikes, I guess there really wasn't any interest from NHL teams.

I wouldn't have signed him to anything more than 3 shmill per season, so he should consider himself lucky to be getting that combined with staying in mother Russia.

The other thing to keep in mind is that as a resident of Russia, Kovalchuk is assessed a flat tax rate of 13% which is significantly lower than the taxation rate in Canada and most American cities There also would be no escrow taking another 15% of the top of his salary in the KHL like there is in the NHL. When you add in some of these factors, it wouldn't surprise me if Kovy was asking for close to 7 shmill per season and NHL GMs/owners balking at those salary demands.

That seems small for someone of Kovy's stature, I think this year was his last shot at the NHL. He's 35 next yr. so I doubt there would be any more interest in him next yr.

Interesting, looks like they may be staying in Carolina now thanks to new owners. Got to think 1 of the 1st things the new owner would do is try to increase attendance.

I'll bet that Winnipeg has had a top five placement on that list for five years.

Good farm systems depend on how you manage and leverage those assets.

You don't know how many times I hoped he would show up during the Election.

I wouldn't mind EddieShack showing up either. I heard he has his parole hearing tomorrow.

I thought it was out there that his starting price to come back was 3 years x 6 schmills

big jump for the good guys.
glad sucking so badly for the last couple of years looks to has paid off at least.

"Having won the Presidents’ Trophy two years in a row, it goes without saying that the Capitals have been highly successful in drafting and developing prospects in years passed." REPORTED!!!

I have a hard time buying the Pens being ranked so low given how important some of their young fill ins were during their Stanley Cup run, but I suppose these things are all speculation. Especially when it seems to me that overall depth is not as important as having a few guys that really contribute. In other words, I'd take 2-3 really great players developed on the farm over 7-8 pretty good ones any day.
