Torts is a wizard at identifying young talent and using it appropriately.
What does that say about the Ducks? They drafted him and traded him for the Wiz to shore up a playoff run and then didn't even use the Wiz in said playoffs.

To be fair to the Ducks, Wiz was likely battling an injury that it appears he hadn't told anyone about.

Karlsson: 925,000 (RFA at the end of this season)
Johnson: 4.3m (Thankfully UFA after this year)

Of course, if the Jackets had said "don't take Karlsson", then they probably wouldn't have taken Clarkson's contract, so...

Still, Karlsson would have filled in quite nicely for Wennberg's injury. Maybe even challenged him for that full time #2C role.

William Karlsson has 22 goals in 41 games for the Knights this season - Coming into this season, he had 18 career NHL goals in 183 games played.

If this were baseball, he would be on the weekly "random drug test" list

Pretty healthy two-hander, I'm pleasantly surprised that the league has continued the crackdown on slashing penalties (I think it has reduced injuries as well as increased scoring this season).

/Although how the above went unpenalized is a mystery.

Very surprised there was no Ref nearby given that there is like 8 guys in the crease.

I was just noting this weekend that I feel they've backed off on the slashing calls. Some of them may be ticky tack but I would love it if they would continue the crackdown. Much more than the faceoff bullshit.

Think Franson will land somewhere as a depth defenseman.

Why? Just because you (as would most of us) would like to see Polak forever banished from the Leafs roster? Or is there something else Franson brings that I'm missing?

Better than the RH we have in our 3rd pair. That's enough for me.

I'm hoping that Dermott plays well on his off-side with Gardiner tonight and renders Polak excess baggage once Zaitsev returns. Much better option IMO than bringing in Franson (who I'm not sure is much better than Polak defensively anyway).
