I'm hoping that Dermott plays well on his off-side with Gardiner tonight and renders Polak excess baggage once Zaitsev returns. Much better option IMO than bringing in Franson (who I'm not sure is much better than Polak defensively anyway).

needs surgery to repair damaged gums
missed one game on Sunday

A d-man who was getting 65% offensive zone starts, playing most of his ice time alongside Patrick Kane, who has a grand total of 7 points?

I guess if a team had a trade ready to fire on maybe they would've claimed him to fill a hole but I'm just not seeing what he brings.

I was thinking more along the lines of you can never have enough defensemen especially when the injury bug comes a callin'. Also, if I'm the Oilers, are you telling me that Brandon Davidson and Matt Benning are better defensemen than Cody Franson?!? Maybe that's why the Oilers are where they are, they have difficulty evaluating talent.

He didn't hurt much last year either, which is...I don't know, something I guess. We'll take whatever we can get these days.

At only $1M on a one-year deal, I would have taken him as a depth guy like dash said.
