* Today is the 3rd anniversary of the Mets' only no hitter, done by Johan Santana against the St. Louis Cards (6/1/12)

SAN DIEGO (6/1/15) -- On the three-year anniversary of Johan Santana tossing the only no-hitter in New York Mets history, Jacob deGrom made things interesting.

DeGrom retired the San Diego Padres' first 15 batters. Clint Barmes then produced a clean leadoff single through the right side of the infield in the bottom of the sixth.

By then, the game was not in doubt, and the Mets coasted to a 7-0 win on Monday night at Petco Park.

DeGrom ultimately tossed eight scoreless innings, allowing two hits and no walks while striking out eight in a 105-pitch effort.

The Mets (29-23) moved into a first-place tie with the rained-out Washington Nationals (28-22) atop the NL East -- although the Amazin's technically are percentage points behind.

Daniel Murphy went 4-for-5 with three runs scored. Murphy hustled home from second base in the first inning when third baseman Will Middlebrooks threw high to first base for an error on the would-be third out. Murphy's two-run homer in the fifth against Andrew Cashner staked the Mets to a 4-0 lead. It marked the 13th four-hit game of Murphy's career. After hitting .198 in April, Murphy hit .330 in May.

Ruben Tejada had hits in each of his first three at-bats. In four games since being installed as the regular third baseman in David Wright's absence, Tejada is hitting .471 (8-for-17) with four RBIs and three doubles.

DeGrom struck out the first four batters he faced. When Barmes did single in the sixth, he eventually was erased as Abraham Almonte grounded into an inning-ending double play. DeGrom faced the minimum through 7 2/3 innings. Middlebrooks' two-out single in the eighth was the only other baserunner against deGrom.

K corner: The Mets struck out 16 times. That came within three of matching the franchise record for a nine-inning game -- 19, all by St. Louis' Steve Carlton in a 4-3 complete-game loss on Sept. 15, 1969. Ron Swoboda had a pair of two-run homers against Carlton.

Odds & ends: Darrell Ceciliani produced his first major league RBI, on a fifth-inning single against Cashner for a 5-0 lead. Ceciliani then notched his first career steal. … Matt Kemp and Padres manager Bud Black were ejected in the eighth. … Former Mets farmhand Cory Mazzoni tossed a scoreless eighth with one walk. He was traded to the Padres at the end of spring training for Alex Torres.

What's next: Noah Syndergaard makes his fifth career major league start. Syndergaard (2-2, 2.55 ERA) opposes right-hander Ian Kennedy (2-5, 7.15) at 10:10 p.m. ET Tuesday.

Wright, getting back treatment in L.A., is due to visit the team. He likely will address the media for the first time since landing on the disabled list after removing himself from an April 14 game.

Well we couldn't get any help from R.A. Dickey, Jose Reyes & Josh Thole et al, in game 1 of a DHer between the Jays & Nats earlier....as the Nats won 2-0.
Game 2 in DC will be played shortly.

Thorsday.

FIRST PITCH: Noah Syndergaard enters his fifth career start with a 1.82 ERA. A scoring change from a May 22 game in Pittsburgh has resulted in two earned runs being removed from Syndergaard's ledger.

Syndergaard opposes struggling right-hander Ian Kennedy (2-5, 7.15 ERA) as the New York Mets and San Diego Padres play the middle game of their series at 10:10 p.m. ET Tuesday at Petco Park.

David Wright, rehabbing in Los Angeles, is expected to visit the Mets on Tuesday. He presumably will speak with the media for the first time since originally landing on the disabled list with a right hamstring issue after removing himself from an April 14 game.

  • Lucas Duda sat out Monday because of right knee stiffness. Duda was hit by a pitch from Miami's David Phelps on Sunday. He plans to return to the lineup Tuesday. Read more in the Post and Newsday.

    • Dilson Herrera has started swinging a bat and throwing as he works back from a fractured right middle finger. Travis d'Arnaud, dealing with a bone bruise in his right wrist, could be back in minor league games later this week. Read about the rehab progress of several injured Mets here. First the good news....
The Nats lost their nitecap to the Jays....and the Braves lost down in the desert.

Now the bad.....
Mets lost 7-2

• Thor lasted just 4 innings.
• He struck out 10 & didn't walk anyone, but he gave up 7 runs (all earned) on 10 hits.

Yikes!!

*Rubber game on Wednesday starts @ 9pm est.

Gee gets the start.......(stay tuned)

SAN DIEGO --(6/3)

FIRST PITCH: And now the New York Mets begin their much-debated six-man rotation. :L

After three rehab starts, Dillon Gee returns from the disabled list to face the San Diego Padres in Wednesday 9:10 p.m. ET rubber game. Gee (0-2, 3.86 ERA) opposes right-hander James Shields (6-0, 3.69).

Danny Muno was demoted to Triple-A Las Vegas early Wednesday morning to make room for Gee.

The Amazin's will carry a four-man bench while utilizing the six-man rotation, which pitching coach Dan Warthen estimated may continue into mid-August.:gaah:

The goal is to conserve innings for Matt Harvey as he returns from Tommy John surgery, plus for younger pitchers Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard.

and of course...a few seconds after I wrote that, Tejada had an E5, then Gee loads the bases, and HBP to score a run....then a sac fly to score another.......2-0 priests, after 1

If this is a showcase to deal him....he'll more than likely be sticking around unfortunately.
