The Harvey Chronicles:

'Embarrassed' Harvey sorry for missing game

Should the Mets consider sending Matt Harvey to the minors?

Matt Harvey apologized to his Mets teammates, fans, the Wilpon family and the organization Tuesday and said he's "extremely embarrassed" by his actions. He said he was out after curfew Friday and played golf Saturday before being a no-show at the ballpark. "I made a mistake, and I'm doing everything I can do so it never happens again," he said.

Before addressing reporters, Matt Harvey met with teammates. "It's not easy going into a clubhouse like that ... I don't want to have to do that again." He adds, "I have not been very happy with myself over my actions the past couple of days. It's me who takes full blame for it, and who will have to ensure it doesn't happen again."

Terry Collins' voice cracked a little when he mentioned that Bartolo Colon sent Matt Harvey a text in recent days. Colon both supported and challenged Harvey, Collins said. It was a message the manager seems glad Harvey received

What did Terry Collins tell Matt Harvey? "He needs to make baseball No. 1. When he did that he was really good."

Terry Collins on Matt Harvey's apology to his teammates: "He didn't mince words. He wanted to talk to the players as a unit. It was a good talk, some great thought went into it. I was impressed by it." But now it's "don't tell me, show me," Collins added.

Curtis Granderson on Matt Harvey: "Respect in (Mets' clubhouse) is still high for him." Granderson said Harvey stood in the middle of the clubhouse this afternoon and delivered a "genuine, heartfelt" apology to teammates.

Get back in & on it, Sandy....ughhh.

NEW YORK - 5/9.
After going unsigned this past winter, veteran pitcher Doug Fister might soon resurface on a major league roster.

According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the right-hander is close to inking a new deal. Heyman reports that Fister is more likely to sign with a National League club, although he's received offers from the American League, as well.

Fister has worked out for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles Angels, New York Mets, Toronto Blue Jays and San Francisco Giants in recent weeks, per SB Nation's Chris Cotillo. Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Mets and Blue Jays are out of the running while the Angels are showing "serious consideration."

The 33-year-old compiled a 4.64 ERA and 5.7 K/9 while on a one-year deal with the Houston Astros last season. He put together his best campaign with the Washington Nationals in 2014, when he went 16-6 with a 2.41 ERA across 25 starts.

Wooo Hooo.

Mets put up 4 in the 1st...and 1 more in the 2nd, to lead it 5-1 after 6.

Wheeler looked good, just giving up 2 hits, including a solo HR to Posey in the 4th.

6 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 4 K on 95 pitches.

Robles is in to pitch the top of the 7th.
...and he throws a 1-2-3 frame.

Stretch time in Queens.

LGM!!!

Well after 2 outs in the 8th....the Mets managed to load the bases on b2b2b singles...
....but all the ducks were left stranded on the pond.

So to the 9th we go, still leading 6-1.

Not a save situation...but here comes Familia to seal the deal.
