Mets are basically playing for that division title now. 8 games back of LA with just about a month to go, it's not realistic that they will catch them. But that's okay, the #2 seed still gets them the bye in the first round. Just have to stay ahead of the Braves (and St Louis).

Yep. I think they can stay ahead of the Cards, but the Braves just won't go away

Mets have a really good in-division record, slightly better that ATL, hopefully that continues. St. Louis has a lot of games against the Central remaining, but they are currently only 14-16 against the division. I'm guessing a lot of those were early losses when they were still struggling to find their stride.

Unfortunately that's a good possibility...and I wouldn't be surprised given Jake's history of getting non support.
Of course I hope I'm wrong, and the Mets bats show up to give him some run support and the bullpen closes the deal.

Mets' Baty to have surgery for UCL tear in thumb

Mets rookie third baseman Brett Baty will undergo surgery Thursday after an MRI revealed a UCL tear in his right thumb, the team announced Wednesday. Also, pitcher Tylor Megill will begin a rehab assignment Thursday.

The Mets will look to take the three-game series with the Dodgers when they play the rubber match on Thursday at 4:10 p.m. ET.
Chris Bassitt (11-7, 3.34 ERA) will start for the Mets against Clayton Kershaw (7-3, 2.64 ERA) for the Dodgers.
Kershaw will be making his first start since being placed on the injured list nearly a month ago. The future Hall of Famer was placed on the IL with lower back pain after his start on August 4 against the Giants.
