I guess it was just an expected move considering his cap hit. At the same time when they seem to be trying to get their cap situation under control just seems like once again let's push the issue to another season and just hope that Brees doesn't continue with his decline. The last 5 years his yards and touchdowns have declined every single season from the year before.

I was really hoping for people to complain about this contract and say the saints were stupid for this and for bringing back Evans as guard who was a cast-off for Seattle.

I don't think it hurts much to give him a one year extension. The original reports were talks of a 4 yr/100 million dollar deal. That would have annoyed me

You're missing my point. The consensus from most outside the saints is that we should move on from Brees because he's old. That's the vibe I got.

As for that third round pick. Well, I think Payton didn't like to draft someone close to home. So he took Grayson.

Do you not think the Saints should be starting to plan for life after Brees? As I said earlier he has seen declining numbers over the past 5 years when he was at the peak of his career. Now his decline is still to that of a top-10 QB but it is not a good look for a 37-year old QB. I would also add that his cap hits continue to be up there among the top-3 to 4 in the position and he just isn't that QB anymore. Time to either move on or at least stop pushing money to future years. I don't mind this extension since this is just one year but if they do it again next year then again I just feel like they are putting a band aid on a giant wound that is bleeding out.
