NFL bans lowering head to initiate contact

This will be a huge issue again and with more severe penalties. These plays will be broken down in super-slow motion during and after every game and cause so much more controversy. So many different scenarios when it comes to plays like this and a lot of innocent players are going to be thrown out of games next season.

So what's the percent likelihood Vontaze Burfict completes an entire game this season?

They've tried this in the past without much success.

Although I do think this is inevitable and not as big a deal as people think it is.

Ironically it's terrible for player making the hit as well.

Didn't this happen to Shazier?

Yep. It's exactly how it happened to him.

I like it. Players shouldn't be lowering their head to initiate contact. It is bad for both parties

I would have preferred automatic ejections and suspensions...

But it’s a start.

Not that I want people to get hurt but...I don't care if they do/dont get concussed while playing football. The players will bitch about these new rules even tho they are there to protect them. If its blatantly obvious a player is trying to hurt another using his helmet then yes he should be penalized but other than that, I don't give a shit. They know the risks and have the choice to play or not.

I am not saying they shouldn't try to minimize concussions but this shit is getting ridiculous.

Take away helmets, no one will lower their head.

Exactly. I was going to say that they should just have them wear soft helmets instead of the armor plated weapons they have now.

Or put packets of pureed ghost chili's inside their helmets that will bust if they hit too hard? :noidea:

It would be entertaining x2. A hard hit and a man acting like his head was dunked in lava.

It will look weird when the guy who is out cold, is penalized 15 yards.

Come on now.

Rugby works just fine.

We don't really require annihilations to make it good do we?

Lots of big hits possible with out using the noggin'. Taking the legs from an airborne receiver is still OK right? As long as it isn't a head shot? Those always look good.

So prefer no rule on this and would rather guys deal with all the symptoms of CTE after retiring.

Got you

excuse me... No green font... Keep on forgetting that sh*t when i do it

I will admit that this is where it gets hard.

Because even though a lot of NFL guys come out of "college", they have to make their money now in the NFL. No way they make anything even close in the field of "communications".

So you will always have guys willing to take those shots to the head for millions of $. Always. UFC guys do it for way less.

But you still can't have Hell in a Cell either. And more importantly you don't need to. Respect the other guy.

Careers end just like that. Money is short lived. Retirement seems a long way off.

It's a big risk/reward.

The only bad thing about this rule is for 10 year vets who's been playing football this way for 20+ years, this is a huge adjustment
