I have heard this rumor for over a year now. Wouldn't be the worst spot for it. Two stone throws from DC, the Harbor and the new Casino so you could get your bet in. :pound:

That casino will basically have a license to print money. Having other attractions near it will make it insane & possibly one of the bigger ones in the country.

Does it really sound like a good plan to have a moat with limited gangplanks around drunk tailgaters to enter and exit the stadium.

I foresee lawsuits by drowned revellers' families.

Also, each bridge can be cut off by 1 terrorist with an AK47.

Right on the money. I have thought this was a likely spot as soon as I heard the first rumor. There is land for the stadium. It has access right next to the Beltway. In MD but right next to the VA and DC lines. Sightlines up the river to the city. National Harbor and the new Casino when it is finished. More importantly is there is a Harley dealership 2 miles down the road. :pound:

PG is not a wealthy county to say the least. Would be interesting to see where the money to build would come from.

On a positive note for Dan he could take a kayak or rubber raft from his front yard in Potomac over Great Falls and the pick up the Spirit of Mt Vernon to bring him the rest of the way down river to the stadium. :thumb:

I was looking at that sort of aerial drawing again. I know it doesn't mean anything but at the same time you never know. Looking north you can see DC, Haines Point, Anacostia River, Washington Channel, the "Wilson Bridge" but just above the stadium is a river or creek. Broad River? Look at an aerial view a little ways down Indian Head Highway 210 .... there is some room available. Hell they could put it on top of the old drive in theater. LOL

The thing about putting it where Oxon Run Park is ... that is very close to the poop plant and could smell kind of crappy.

Haven't seen anyone comment on this yet:

"D.C. officials plan to unveil an array of possibilities for the future of the RFK Stadium property Monday night, among them a new 65,000-seat Redskins stadium and a basketball and hockey venue capable of replacing Verizon Center.

All the proposals include a raft of suggested recreation facilities for a city with a booming population, among them playing fields, a field house, a water park and a sports-and-entertainment complex that officials likened to Chelsea Piers in Manhattan."

RFK Stadium site offered as home for Redskins or maybe Wizards and Capitals

I cant see converting all three to one venue. Unless they have retractable seating to slide you in closer for B-ball and Hockey games. Plus, as I understand it will not be a dome. Hard to keep ice hard in late April early May for playoff games. Each franchise makes loads of money... no need to share space.

I just hope the new Redskins stadium gets a retractable roof. Doesn't Synder want to host a Super Bowl?

For a change - some really good feedback in the WP comments sections.

Great pt by many that there really is no reason to relocate the Caps/Wizards from their current location. Verizon Center is ideal since it serves several Metro stops. There also are great bars/restaurants/etc in that area. If they want to upgrade down the rd - fine - but no reason to move.

As for the Redskins - that will be a huge uphill battle. Snyder has his eyes on several other locations in MD/VA & there are also issues related to the fact that federal govt has input into a lot of this (& of course the team name issues).

I think that the current RFK location would be better served to house facilities that service the local community as mentioned in the article.

I sort of like the idea of the stadium next to National Harbor. Just happened to see this and thought I would share and show you I could use the wrong spelling of site .... but everyone can share their insight.

I read a couple of articles and one said Alexandria was interested. Where the hell were they when Cooke wanted to build on Potomac Yards???:noidea:

I think that it was just a different era & back then the idea of building new stadiums was looked at in a very negative light (& often only done if the team either just won a SB or threatened to leave the area).

It is much different at this time. These things are heavily funded by corporate sponsors & the team can also recoup money by selling the existing location for a lot of $$. New stadiums every 20-25 years are now just a fact of life.

Snyder wants a new downtown stadium and a SB host to change the name.
