not all of us can have a pasty flab that has sleep overs with highschool boys on his way to 0 major conference titles in his coaching career.Yeah, that's what they do....laugh. Not all of us can be 4-8.
Lloyd's last years were pretty terrible as well. I think the slide started even before Dick Rod.
Did anybody mention Miami? They haven't been the same program since Butch Davis left. And yes, I know they went to 2 titles after he left(and won one). But the coach they hired, ultimately lead them in a downward spiral they still haven't gotten out of.
Texas went into a 20 year death spiral after Darrell Royal.
When Bud Wilkinson retired, Gomer Jones took over, he was the defensive coordinator, and it spiraled out of control for 3 years.
Then we hired Jim Mackenzie in 1967 who died of a heart attack after 1 year of coaching. But he had brought in Chuck Fairbanks and Barry Switzer in that 1 year and they took over after his death.
After Barry Switzer, we had Gary Gibbs, Howard Schnellenberger, and John Blake.
Then hired Bob Stoops.
When the fuck was Washington State high enough to be able to spiral down?
Pages 55-51? Do they know how pages and/or reading works?Thread Fail !
Big time coach and
Aren't the same!
Agree, didn't hit the downward spiral until a decade later. Even won a rose bowl in that time.I don't know if I would say Washington went in to a spiral after losing james. they started trending down some, lambright kind of had them up and down but it wasn't really til Neuheisle that things really started falling apart followed by gilbert and Tyrone.
And I don't think losing Kelly is exactly what caused Oregons downward trend as much as losing Mariota. seems like after he left leadership fell off, players weren't really in it.
Actually looking at this whole list most of them are bullshit. USC was down for USC, but could hardly be considered a spiral, Florida had some down years, but we're never hopeless, considering how the fall of Penn State went down, they've done great pretty much every year, and are now playing for conference championships, OSU, seriously? The only reason they weren't in some quality bowl games every year is they weren't allowed to be, Boise State has done fine, they're back in their own league, but spiral? South Carolina was never all that great with their big name coach, Washington has been covered, definitely a big and out of control spiral, but only works in this context if you're calling neuheisel a big name coach, Oregon yes, Nebraska yes, the rest don't deserve to be on the list, no shit too early to tell...
