7 walks and 3 errors. When does Lloyd start to get criticism for this lousy play? His bark (with media) seems to be stronger than his bite (with players).

Cut the walks in half and get rid of the errors and perhaps the Mariners win that game. Mediocre defense has really been killing this team so far, struggling with the fundamentals. 3 of the runs Paxton gave up were unearned. Think about that for a second.

True, but Paxton 2015 is nowhere near Paxton 2014.

I recall him being a great defensive centerfielder with the Tigers. So far this year his defense hasn't been overly impressive. On the bright side, he's looking better at the plate. I have to assume that with his athletic ability, perhaps the defense will improve.

Watching his last start (I haven't had time to watch as many games this year as in previous years), the biggest thing that I've noticed that has changed is he appears to not be throwing as many strikes. I have to assume he will adjust, watching him pitch he still has great stuff, his command just seems to be off.

Another thing regarding Paxton, is when he has been missing, it has been by barely a hair. It's not like he is off by a lot.

Command is definitely off, but also notice a lack of movement on his pitches. They are straight with no cut. His arm strength looks good so there is that.

This game has gotten off to an annoying start. The good news is Elias is locating the curve decently. Got unlucky with a couple bleeders in the first.

If the M's win this game it's overall a disappointing home stand at 5-4, lose and it's a disastrous 4-5 against 3 teams that you have no business losing home series against.

Either way it means right now this is indeed a bad team. Way too early to write off playoffs though.

Oh we have a problem alright. The question is at what point in the season can you write off those problems as being too bad or just not enough time to overcome and still find a way to the post season. That point won't come in May.

I have to assume these problems will be resolved. Will we see the dominance we saw last year? I highly doubt it. But I do think that the defense will fix things, as will Paxton and Walker. I'm not saying Paxton and Walker will be Cy Young worthy, but the terrible performances they've put up will begin to improve. Plus, I have to assume once Iwakuma comes off the DL, he will return to form.

Even if all of those things come true, losing 4 or 5 of this home stand against the level of play we faced this last week might still come back to haunt them later.
