Really not a fan of expansion. I know the league is doing pretty well financially, but it's a big risk to take on, and I really just don't like the idea of expansion drafts, etc. Just move the financially crippling teams and be done with it. The Coyotes never should've stayed, and Florida has been given too much of a chance as well. I know there are circumstances around both (location sucks, etc) but you CAN'T operate a team that gets 10K to a game.

That should be step one. If that works and there is still a desire to expand, I have no problem with a 32 team league. But adding two teams when Florida and Arizona still exist makes no sense to me.

How he didn't get a nickname is beyond me. His name is "BALL SILLY"

Las Vegas shouldn't get a team ahead of Seattle, Houston, Quebec City, Kansas City, Toronto 2, Milwaukee or Saskatoon.

I really don't want to see Las Vegas get a team over so many other places already mentioned, or at all for that matter. But if the NHL absolutely wants to have Las Vegas in the NHL, why not just give them 5-10 of the Coyotes home games? If scheduled properly they could probably sell out a hand full of games a year and the sky's the limit on how many games they could match or better Arizona's attendance. That being said, the fewer home games in Glendale, the higher their average attendance is likely to become.

This isn't my ideal situation, and I realize there are countless better scenarios that don't involve a team in the desert at all. But the NHL considers relocation a last resort (fair enough in my opinion), and seem to like the idea of a presence in Vegas. If they absolutely want to meet both of those objectives, I'd much rather see this than 2 teams in the desert.

Bettman says potential Vegas owner Bill Foley has been given the green light to generate season-ticket drive to see what interest there is

And so it begins.

I'd prefer Axel Foley as an owner over Bill.

What are the chances that a bunch of season tickets are going to be bought by Casinos looking to have a stock of things to comp for high rollers who can't get in to see Penn and Teller?

I am sure the NHL is hoping for that.
As well as a few suites.
Most hockey fans in Vegas right now are Kings fans. Kings have been going there for decades in the preseason.
It will be weird going to games there since the Kings owners will own the building.
I still think it would have been better to move the Yotes there than put a second team in the desert.

I think they should be able to draw well enough because of all those Kings fans there, plus I think you'll see Ducks, Coyotes and maybe even Sharks fans making the trek down there

But I do think they'll need a local fan base eventually

Can't remember if it was mentioned in this thread before or not, but the challenge to a local fan base in Vegas is that such a high percentage of its local residents work evenings as compared to any other major city.

I'm not going to say they don't have any fans because they do, Glendale is close enough where if people down there wanted to go they probably would - but I guess if people in Phoenix don't want to go down to Glendale then they probably won't go to Vegas

It would be an interesting situation though with Vegas - wonder how long they can last with fans that aren't of that team populating their arenas

I would guess if they do get a team that they'd try to schedule a lot of afternoon games on weekends if that's the case - and maybe schedule earlier games during the week(5pm type games) but then that would also depend on when other teams play(such as the Kings, Sharks, Ducks) because you start dealing with back to backs too
