So, losing to a school that is 1-8 and damn near DIV II, isn't worse than losing to a div II team that only had 1 loss? Forget the #1 ranking. Mich St. lost to a team that only had 1 win.

Virginia was #1 in the nation with a 7-fuckin-4 Ralph Sampson. They got beat by a glorified high school team from the basketball mecca of downtown Honolulu.

Texas Southern jumped 76 spots in the RPI off of this win alone. Now at 130 in the RPI. This may not be as much of an RPI killing loss as first perceived. Texas Southern closes with @Auburn, @Kansas State and @New Mexico State. Even an 0-3 record will still put them in the top 170 or so. Then if they run through the SWAC as they should(if they play like they did Saturday) their RPI will be inside of 150. The only problem will be if they go 12-6 again in conference play. They'll finish the regular season with a record of 14-17 and almost assuredly have a RPI of 200+. Home losses to teams that are 200+ in the RPI absolutely kill the resume.

Needless to say, if Michigan State does make the tournament, this will probably cost them 2-3 seed lines. This dropped their RPI almost 40 spots. They finish OOC with The Citadel, who's RPI is at 347. Even a win will drop their overall RPI. When was the last time Michigan State entered conference play outside the top 60 in the RPI? Michigan State's resume is really lacking right now.
