Turnovers have been demonstrated to mostly be noise outside of forced fumbles. A defense like Carolina's with 39 Takeaways is very likely to significantly regress. Dallas (11) is kind of on the opposite side of the spectrum where they could get a pretty healthy bump from turnover regression.

Certainly not sacks or yards.

In a vacuum, turnovers. But since it's not a sustainable way to win games, I gotta go with points.

It's obviously points. Keeping the opponent from scoring takes the pressure of the rest of the team.

1. points
2. yards
3. TO's
4. Sacks

If your D is giving up the least amount of points, chances are the team will win double digits unless the O is dreadful.

Not what I said. I said put a poll up on who is the better defense. Redskins or Cowboys.
When did you say to put up a poll? And did you not throw up fantasy stats to combat points ascacway to rate a defense?

I've always said points, but it's not to the degree that this lopsided poll shows. There are issues with using points: pick sixes, special teams TDs and situations where the defense is given a short field come into play and can skew the results.

But...if we are using points I would like to point out that Dallas gave up less points than Washington the last four years in a row...:thumb:

That's probably the reason deanpet got scared and tried to introduce fantasy stats into my proposed bet.

This right here. None of these stats are the end all be all of ways to judge a defense. So much more plays into the overall picture.

But if you were going to place a bet on it what would you use to determine the winner. If you start allowing a bunch of measurables your going to have another TGann meltdown.

Of those 4 stats yes Points would hold the highest value in my opinion. I get that when you start mixing in more you have issues but there are stats like DVOA that to me show a much bigger picture.

By far, it's points allowed for the reasons mentioned. NFL keeps on propping up yards against, as the main stat; does anyone know why?

Of course, special teams could give up many points in a given game, but should you pin that on the D?

Nah that wouldn't be the D's fault .... Special teams can make or break ya sometimes though for sure...
