Dameyune Craig, Jabbar Juluke off LSU coaching staff, school announces

A day after national signing day, LSU coach Ed Orgeron is shuffling his staff.
Orgeron fired receivers coach/recruiting coordinator Dameyune Craig and reassigned running backs coach Jabbar Juluke, the school announced Thursday, just hours after the program signed the No. 7-ranked class in the nation Wednesday.
“We appreciate the work that Dameyune and Jabbar did for LSU,” Orgeron said in a statement from the school. “We wish them nothing but success in the future.”
Orgeron will begin an immediate search to find replacements for Juluke and Craig, the statement said.
Juluke and Craig joined the Tigers staff last spring, hired away from Texas Tech and Auburn, respectively, by former LSU coach Les Miles. Details of Juluke's reassignment are not yet known. Craig's future plans are unclear, too.
Both coaches have more than a year left on their contracts with LSU. The school owes them nearly $1 million. Craig was due to make $575,000 this year in a contract that expires next May. Juluke was set to make $275,000 this year. His contract also ends next May, and the school is expected to honor the deal in his new role.
The timing of the decisions came less than 20 hours after Orgeron stood with the staff at LSU's recruiting party, the Bayou Bash, on Wednesday, celebrating his first signing class as head coach.
The timing is nothing new in college football. Staff shakeups often happen after signing day, as head coaches make their moves only after inking highly touted prospects to binding national letters of intent.
Last year, for instance, Miles fired receivers coach Tony Ball the weekend after signing day. Craig's replacement will be LSU's fourth different receivers coach in four years. Adam Henry began the stretch after leaving for the NFL following the 2014 season.
If Craig lands another job, LSU's payments to him would be offset by his new salary. Oregon coach Willie Taggart contacted Craig in December about a spot on his staff, The Advocate and others previously reported. Taggart's staff still has an opening after the firing of co-offensive coordinator/tight ends coach David Reaves, fired in less than two weeks ago after his arrest on charges of DUII, reckless driving and reckless endangerment.
LSU's signing class features three signees at the position Juluke and Craig coached: Catholic RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire and receivers Racey McMath of Edna Karr and mid-year enrollee Mannie Netherly of Texas.
LSU missed on a pair of uncommitted targets who announced on signing day. Amite receiver Devonta Smith picked Alabama, and Nico Collins picked Michigan. The Tigers also missed on a handful of running back prospects, falling short of landing Jennings' Travis Etienne and Mississippi five star Cam Akers.
Craig and Juluke's ouster means that Orgeron's first full staff will include, at most, two coaches who were on the previous staff under Miles: defensive coordinator Dave Aranda and offensive line coach Jeff Grimes.
