Maybe they could work out a Fielder for Hamilton trade...the food addict for the drug addict.
Both guys were tremendous hitters at one point.

Except I see Prince returning to being a .280/30hr/90-100 RBI guy if his recovery goes well for at least 2-3 years. Hamilton will never return to MVP caliber ever again.

you can stick a fork in Hamilton. His body is giving out from all the abuse over the years. Fielder will come back fine. He had never been injured before.

Never being injured before could also end up hurting him, as he's put a lot of mileage on his body, which might not be in good enough shape to age well....it's well documented that both sluggers and overweight position players don't age well in their 30s (whether by injury, loss of skill, if not both). Not to mention, his last full season wasn't all that good (.279 AVG, .820 OPS).

Here's an interesting read on Frangraphs on how the trends say Prince might age in his 30s:

He was injured that year too he said. However, I don't know how a guy his size will respond to a cervical fusion.

Prince's dad also fell apart pretty rapidly in his early 30s despite being durable before that.

Hopefully the team had him on some weight control plan after his injury. We'll find out soon enough where he tips the scales at.

Well it's not just the weight...sluggers for some reason tend to age very poorly in their 30s.

Just randomly looking at a prior year (I randomly chose 2009), looking at some of the guys in the top 10 in HRs that year and where they're at now:

Pujols - declined greatly after age 30
Adrian Gonzalez - ditto
Adam Dunn - ditto
Jason Bay - ditto
Mark Teixeira - ditto (both declined in skill and started breaking down)
Ryan Howard - ditto (both declined in skill and started breaking down)
Carlos Pena - went downhill quickly starting at age 32

Fielder, Mark Reynolds (who's washed up), Jayson Werth were the remaining three on that list.

And you can go back further years and see similar scenarios...sluggers tend to decline more rapidly than the average player.

Great Googilly Mooglly did this conversation ever drive me nuts when Princey was a Tiger.

Still does. I love watching that dude play. (Tiger fans got pissed at him when he didn't make excuses. Kinda ironic.)

To be fair, there's a pretty strong opinion that Pujols is at minimum 2 years older than his birth certificate indicates.

Well he's a weird case, b/c he declined heavily from ages 32-34 then improved from age 35 on

Just looking at those years for Ortiz:
Ages 27-31 - .302 AVG, 156 OPS+
Ages 32-34 - .264 AVG, 120 OPS+
Ages 35-38 - .298 AVG, 156 OPS+

Don't wanna accuse a guy of roids or anything, but he just magically got better at age 35 after a few years of declining significantly.

To be fair, there's a pretty strong opinion that Pujols is at minimum 2 years older than his birth certificate indicates.

Even so, my main point is they decline significantly in a rapid manner, so even if the decline was at age 32 instead of 30, it was a rapid drop-off nonetheless.

2006-2010: .330 AVG, 177 OPS+
2011-2014: .280 AVG, 133 OPS+

So his average fell a whopping 50 points and OPS+ more than 40 percentage points just like that.

Pujols - declined greatly after age 30

Pujols "declined greatly" after the evidence of his PED usage became overwhelming and outright accusations started up. Not surprisingly, this decline was virtually simultaneous to his "listening to the Lord's calling for me" and signing the $253,000,000 contract.

Who's really a bigger creep? Hamilton or Pujols? Probably Hamilton because instead of loving his family he loves drugs and sluts, but it's got to be close.

Remember that one time Alex Rodriguez only wanted to win and how getting a new contract wasn't just about money? Remember how he then signed a record contract with the perennial bottom dwelling Rangers?

Please don't cry when a player says one thing but leaves for a BS reason. Your team benefited from that exact scenario not too long ago.

Benefitted? How did the Rangers benefit from that? That contract was largely responsible for throwing the Rangers into bankruptcy. The Rangers just paid Rodriguez the last dollar they owe him, only in the last 18 months because of that God awful deal Tom Hicks made. Please know what you're talking about before shooting your mouth off.

I have more respect for a guy that relapses on wizbang and a few beers and owns it than a lying roider.

Don't kid yourself. Hamilton is a self absorbed, lying piece of shit that uses religion as a crutch for every self interested decision he makes. Btw, I don't have a problem with making self interested decisions, but own it. Don't use religion as a facade for your actions.
