Sorry, i went to a public school, where we had morons, gang bangers (and wannabes), and idiots alike. There were plenty of failures in my school, not because it was a bad school, because it was in the friggin 90s and the area i lived in was not as well developed and my parents couldn't afford to put me in a private school where they teach you college level courses, i had to teach myself that shit.

I too went to a public school, class of '97. A 4A, so not the biggest.

because they recruit so well from allybama

True fact: Our most well known dumbass fan is a retired Texas state trooper.

Why didn't one of your Texas schools keep that crazy in state?

all I can remember about my Spanish classes, was that first little convo you have to learn:

First person: Hola! que tal?
second per: Bastante bien, y tu
FP: como estas?

well that's all I remember of it...

dos cervezas, por favor.

much more important....

I know that I needed two semesters of foreign language to graduate from a Texas HS. Anecdotal evidence, sure. But evidence. A&M required two as well.
My Texas high school required at least two years of foreign language as well I think it's state law.

Yeah, my high school also required 2 years of foreign language to graduate. It was(is) a 5A public school and still required it from every student.

So doing some research - there is, in fact, something called the Minimum High School Plan, which has a few less requirements for the diploma including no strict foreign language requirement. However, "in most cases it does not adequately qualify students for admission to most universities and the TEA’s concern that students won’t be admitted to university with only these credits is such that it even requires parental permission to pursue." It sounds like it's for homeschoolers and/or students with disabilities that may require modified requirements. I didn't dig any further.

"Current public high school students in Texas are required to adhere to the Recommended High School Program in order to graduate." The RHSP does require two years (not semesters but years) of foreign language. The requirement was in place when Lampkin entered HS.

The Distinguished Achievement Program just has additional requirements than the RHSP.

Do any of you remember your high school Spanish? I barely remember enough to order at Taco Bell.

I went to a large public high school (equivalent to a 6A in Tex today) in the part of town that was the most segregated. You had to take foreign language, and if you were going to college, you needed two years. Cant remember if you needed one or two to graduate. And this was a long time ago.
