Kerrigan wont get done this year. His salary for this year is fully guaranteed so extending him before mid season would actually cost us more money against the cap. But yes this should set reasonable expectations for when they do get around to it.

Over The Cap shows that all of his salary this year, which is around $7M, is non-guaranteed. That makes sense because that's the fifth year option the Redskins exercised on him last year. Why not use that salary as part of a signing bonus over, say a five year deal. If we give him a $15M signing bonus and guarantee a $2M salary this year, we clear $2M in cap space and lock him up for the immediate future.

Unless I read the rules wrong, the 5th year option is like franchise tag light. But I was mistaken... once

The fifth year option, I believe, is only guaranteed for injury. But perhaps someone could check on that.
