But of course the Lakers now are more desperate to get Leonard, to give LeBron more incentive to come.
So clear out the roster, max out on 3 players and fill the rest of the roster with minimum vet players?
It has worked before.
But also, because Kawhi is only making 20 million and they would hopefully keep at least 1 guy like Hart, they could land a pretty strong 7 or 8.
And you know how easy it is to get vets and midseason buyouts to sign for less if you have a legit contender.
Lets face the facts, I wouldn't seriously think about trading Leonard until close to the trading deadline. Teams will be willing to pay more than as opposed to now. Some team other than the Lakers would think it would be worth the risk.
It can work, certainly. But it isn't easy. And the timing is going to make it pretty tough. That Deng contract makes it really tough.
I don't think that is necessarily true. Some deadline deals turn out well, but many times they end up being lesser offers.
There are a lot of variables that could impact what teams are willing to pay
LA is Kawhi's preferred destination. They might not have the most valuable assets but they're willing to give more than anyone else, that's why their deal will be superior.
Weak sauce, if you actually believe the Lakers can offer the best package, which they can't. Not to mention to you're fucked anyway you look at it on any real return value.
Truth be told I would be shocked if the Lakers offer anything serious prior to FA. Why give up assets to get Kawhi if they can get Lebron and PG?
You willing to give up Ingram, Kuzma, and Ball to get Kawhi?
Yes. If you get a chance to put Lebron, PG and Kawhi on the same team. You kind of have to.
I love the young kids and would have no issue being patient and watching them grow if that were the direction things went.
But I would pack them up and drive them to San Antonio myself if it meant getting those 3 all on the Lakers.

I understand that. My point is that the best team does not have to have the best seesYeah, that wasn't the case this year. The Warriors weren't losing more due to rest, it was injuries and a hot (regular season) Rockets team.
Come on, man. Maybe the Lakers will get Leonard but it won't be this year. Pops ain't trading Leonard to the Lakers.
Why couldn't he just keep his mouth shut, not extend, and take care of this crap behind closed doors? Just play out the contract. Injuries can happen in any sport but this isn't the NFL where it's a fact of life. Now it's nothing but more drama.
