Now to play the devils idiot here, do you take his "hype" right now and trade him to KC for a young bullpen arm to help this year?

Will he keep it up? No. But you don't trade him unless the return is large. There are very few pen arms in the history of baseball I would trade for. They are made and you have a lot of resources to choose from to build one. He is what we wanted Ackley to be. Maybe it is just baseball karma working for us for once.

If the Mets throw in the towel, Addison Reed will become available. I love to see him take over the 8th inning for the Mariners. But I wouldn't want to give up Gamel for him. Maybe Heredia or Motter, but not Gamel.

Motter probably, but not the other two IMO. I do like Reed though. I would do DJ Peterson for him in a second or even Vogelbach.

Motter I believe will be expendable. With Jean Segura being locked up long term and utility guys being a dime a dozen, I could see him being a trade chip at sometime soon. Motter has solid defense, plus speed and plus power. Some team might see some value in him. Also, he's under team control for a while.

I wouldn't move Gamel. Although I think his .340+ BA is inflated, he does indeed look like a guy who can hit .290 or so with solid defense and solid speed. Given the expensive contracts we have allocated to Seager, Cano and Felix, plus players like Gamel who are under team control for the cheap are of high value to the team. That being said, I don't think he's a guy the Mariners should move.

BUMP.

Figured now might be a time to take another look at this topic.

June 20 (when I started the thread): 50 G .351/.412/.487 with 13 doubles, 2 triples, 3 HRs 21 RBIs and a BAbip of .464.
June 21 - September 14: 69 G .223/.259/.347 with 9 doubles, 3 triples, 6 HRs, 32 RBIs and a BAbip of .265.

Tale of two Gamels.

I brought up his BAbip because I thought it was mostly responsible for Gamel's start. Additionally, I think it's mostly responsible for Gamel's poor previous 69 games. Gamel's career BAbip is .339 (going through the minors), meaning in the second half Gamel was getting pretty unlucky while getting incredibly lucky the first half.

Given all of this, I think Gamel's current cumulative stats combining the first two portions are pretty accurate. Overall this season his BAbip is .340 which is a pubic hair away from his career norm. I think/hope that going forward Gamel is a guy who is a consistent 10-15 HR with around 30 doubles a year along with a .270-.280 BA.

Good stat digging man.... Truth be told I am still not sure what to think of Gamel but I like the way he plays the game for the most part. That said I think he is a nice player to have on the Mariners roster right now, he isn't the problem with this team, IMO.

Interesting looking at some of those numbers though, as much as many would like to fight it stats can tell a story.

its hard in baseball coming off of injury then jump right into the season and hit the ball. I feel that once you get injured you will put up average numbers, Mitch Haniger was putting up average numbers last season because he was dealing with an injury, now that he is healthy we finally see what he can bring to the team. If Gamel was healthy and had all spring training to prepare I think he would be a lot more productive

I'm not sure if coming off an injury is really making Gamel play like he did to close the season out last year. He essentially got a full spring training by playing in Tacoma for longer than he needed to be, he was tearing up AAA for his week and a half or whatever it was with as many AB's as he would have in spring.
