Absolutely!We drove to Seaside and hung out at the beach for a few days before the Eclipse and drove to Salem in the middle of the night to ensure we had a good spot. The trip back to the beach took hours. That was fugly traffic. Entirely worth it though.
Fan attitudes go a very long way towards enjoying a game - especially when you don't have a horse in the race. I loved going to Tulane games in my two years (1995 and 1996 seasons) there because the fans were die-hard college football fans. You could always chat up a fan there about the sport - not just about the teams on the field. (Of course, if Tulane drew 20,000 fans for a game, the Superdome still appeared empty.)Reser's a better place to see a game because beaver fans don't have their heads inserted entirely up their own backsides. I'd say that's the number 1 reason.
That said, I don't remember if they served beer there, but I am inclined to believe they did. It is, after all, New Orleans.
