No they don't. That's why 2 loss sec teams get in ncg. That's why there are 2 sec teams in a rematch in ncg. It's why 1 loss sec teams get in the ncg over other 1 loss teams. And it's why already now ppl are talking about 2 sec teams in the playoff even though they are mediocre.

These stupid early bafflingly unfair rankings matter.

The committee members don't have any reason to use any methods of polling to determine their selections and from what I've read are discouraged from doing so.

I can get down with that, but you'll never escape the ol' eyeball test tho. How do these teams get ranked? Stats? Who's to say they have the best defense when the teams they played didn't have good offenses and those teams that those teams played didn't have any defense and so on and so on and so on.

Current rankings have nothing to do with the selection committee so how are you lambasting them before they even put out one poll and made one mistake in the selection process? Coaches Poll is the biggest joke because half the time coaches don't even vote, they have one of their assistants do it for them. They watch less games than anyone out there. They care more about their team and their upcoming opponents than anything else (and they should).

Preseason rankings fuck over good teams. I think Mississippi State is a good team. Better than Michigan State or Nebraska or OU or Baylor or Notre Dame? Couldn't tell you, but I can only hope that the breadth of each team (Mississippi State as well) is taken into account devoid of the media's unwarranted placement.
