If Miss State blows out A&M

The members of the committee are CFB people and they watch CFB. That means that rankings matter. Its impossible to not be biased by them even if you arent supposed to be. FSU came into the year preseason number 1 and I think we can all agree they havent been as impressive as 5-7 other unbeatens. That said if the playoff started TODAY does anyone here think FSU wouldnt be in it??? Yeah... thats what I thought. Rankings dont "matter" in the sense they arent the guideline by which teams are picked but you will be hard pressed to convince me that the bias those rankings create wont be present in the committee room at years end.

I can only hope that the widely held perceptions of lazy media are shunned for actual, physical proof of accomplishment.

Preseason rankings fuck over good teams. I think Mississippi State is a good team. Better than Michigan State or Nebraska or OU or Baylor or Notre Dame? Couldn't tell you, but I can only hope that the breadth of each team (Mississippi State as well) is taken into account devoid of the media's unwarranted placement.

I hope so too. Id love for the committee's discussions to be televised as well.

I do know that your REAL team is the Michigan State of the SEC, but the problem with that is at least once every 4 years you have to post a season where you barely are bowl eligible.

It appears to me at least one media member with mouse ears is already paving the road for Miss St for a top 5 spot. I just checked scores on all FBS games and saw their "possible upset" at the top with Iowa St hanging tough vs Okie St. No mention of #6 aTm getting beat as an upset. Or have they done this all year wth SEC schools?

i remember around 2004ish watching USC on a FSN channel and they would only show updates on ESPN when the Trojans did something good or had a nice lead

ESPN is a business, they cover what gets viewers. Thus their close relationship with the SEC. The only way to cure it is to not watch ESPN.

One of the problems with ranking teams in polls is that perception of quality ends up being as important as actually doing something of value on the field. It shouldn't matter how "good" a team is, per se. What should matter is how many games a team wins, and against whom those wins came. You can make an argument for or against including a component of how dominant teams were or wren't in their games as well. Otherwise, why play the games at all? just look at the pre-season rags and we will all know who to invite to the playoffs without ever having to play a single game.

They sure are looking good. Trashing an SEC west team for the 2nd week in a row.

Remember what happened vs LSU though, they gave up 26 in the second half, 19 of them in the 4th Q.

If they continue the domination I'd have no argument seeing them @ #1. But if they manage to barely escape again, I'm not seeing them as the team to beat.

Not sure if anyone commented on this... They did pull starters. So if you just look at the boxscore, that is what you see. You watch the game and know they came back against backups.

I watched the 2nd half of the game when LSU was making its comeback.

If MSUs coach kept backups in there during that 4th quarter he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
