Seems to me that Lovie has a strong track record as a defensive coordinator, but a poor record as a head coach. Either way, jump on the pile!

No dog in this one for me, but Lovie was run out of CHI with a winning record as the head man...his problem much like Dungy and many of other former DC HCs...just too conservative, couldn't win enough big games. Rivera was on the hotseat until last year...Tomlin will be soon if they don't make the playoffs.

OFC league.

Whoever made the decision to make ATL-TB a Thursday Night game didn't do CBS any favors.

his coaching philosophy is wait for the other team to make mistakes. when his teams faced elite qbs they always got torched

A superbowl appearance certainly buys you some cache, but I thought Lovie was very overrated in Chicago. Did less with more in a big way. Never seemed able to get his teams in a consistent rhythm. Then, bringing Josh McCown into Tampa, as the starter, no less... That's as bad as Marty Morninwheg bringing in Ty Detmer when he was hired in Detroit with a young Charlie Batch sitting right there. A move that really speaks poorly of the coach on several levels. Then last night, to be down 56-0 midway through the third quarter... Astoundingly bad. His team has quit on him 3 games into the season.

That was a seriously bad effort by the Bucs last night, but it got out of control in a hurry...I can say this...with the outcome long decided the Bucs continued to play it out...they could've gotten blanked.

That said...the next game will be indicative of Lovie's ability...much like coach Smith for ATL...they were coming off a beatdown from the previous week.

The Road team always has a huge disadvantage in the thursday night game. Add in Atlanta is a really good home team and I was confident in ATL.

But damn did that game get out of hand quickly. Nothing worked for TB, Turnovers, 3 and outs, couldn't stop ATL, giving up special teams and Defensive TDs.

Yikes.

"Rooney Rule"? :noidea:

Or maybe 81-66. When has a coach with his track record ever been fired after 3 games ?

Fun fact - In the history of the NFL black HCs have a higher W/L % that white HCs.

Dumb thread.

I dunno. I kind of like watching major blowouts. It's sort of like watching a car crash, you just can't help watching to see how bad it's gonna get.

Never see a first year coach get fired 3 games in.

Why hire a guy to inherit another guys mess and give him less than a month to fix it?

Rooney Rule doesn't force you to hire anybody, just forces you to interview a minority coach.

But to address the topic at hand, there is no reason to fire a first year head coach after one bad game. He'd have to go 0-16 to get fired after one year.

Conservative no doubt, but losing to elite QBs is hardly a bad trait...as I said...just didn't win enough big games in CHI.

No, he is mostly legit but its an offensive league right now until you actually get to the playoffs.

Tampa Bay is kinda known for quitting. They have had a bad locker room for a few years, imo. This team was almost 2-0 and I think they knew it and I think they figured their season was already done. Also Thursday night. Also @Atlanta.
