So if there are 3,000 unique players in a decade, you think being 11th best isn't HOF worthy because you chose an arbitrary number that they have to be top 10?
No. But if you are unable to get on 5% of ballots with 10 slots, you are barely borderline at best.

And in the situations where someone who is worthy slips through, the Vets committee is there to catch those (Orlando Cepeda)

The "one and done" team is actually very good. It can't beat the hypothetical HoF team with Ruth and Wagner obviously, but you can definitely put together a hypothetical team of HoFers that they would probably beat pretty handily.

yeah, it's pretty awful. And Rolen. They're both considered to be among the best fielders at their positions ever, but Rolen was actually a good hitter. Vizquel was bad. SS might be a more difficult position, but I can't see how his defense there is more valuable than Rolen's advantage offensively. And I'm not sure that he was a better fielder than Rolen was either.

Not sure if you are being serious.

I am. I mean, I loved him. He was great, but was done by 33. Solid every season. Couple years of leading the league in ERA, couple others in Innings, a couple in SOs. 2 CYs. But, he was done at 33. Didn't even get to 150 wins. He needed a longer stretch of peak years, IMO.

I'd be surprised if he lasted more than 1 year.

nailed it!

Why don't you wander into the Big Leagues, the PF, where the big boys can chew you up.

Been there, done that. Got bored. You show me one that can chew me up, and I'd consider it. Isn't it time for you to get your diaper changed, now, gramps?

I can understand the bored. You need at least a 6th grade education to survive.

I know, right? There are few of those in the PF.... thus their inability to keep me entertained.

I did a little exercise using Hall of Stats. Here are the percentage of eligible players with a Hall Rating over 100 who are in the HOF.

Shortstop: 87.5%
1st Base: 73.9%
Catcher: 73.3%
Second Base: 73.3%
Right Field: 72.7%
Left Field: 70%
DH: 66.7%
Pitcher: 64.6%
Center Field: 58.8%
3rd Base: 58.8%

And here are the total number of players at each position with a Hall Rating under 100

Pitcher: 18
Right Field: 9
Second Base: 8
Shortstop: 8
Left Field: 7
Center Field: 7
First Base: 5
Catcher: 4
Third Base: 3

Shows how underrepresented 3rd Base is in the HOF.
