I get what you're saying, but it really serves no purpose for the Warriors to announce it right now.

They're going to have to make a statement soon on the Iguodala trade. I guess a way around that would be to just issue a team statement saying "We think Andre Iguodala is an exceptional player and this is to announce, again for no reason at all, that we're going to retire Iguodala's jersey one day. Of course this isn't for any particular reason that you might see in the next few days. Just a random thought that occurred to us today."

Or they could just wait until the trade is completed and come out and thank Iguodala for his time with the team and then say they'll retire his jersey. But maybe some people would prefer the above first?

LOL, I was joking, I have no idea where the rule exists. I was just going off of what I saw quoted and provided the link to the tweet. But it's all good.

Lol...that’s good. I was like, that citation makes no sense.

I'm a millenial (barely) and I think it's stupid. I always thought of Jersey retirees were guys who spent 10-15 years with a franchise and had an extreme positive impact on the team.

#21 isn't retired by the Timberwolves because Kevin Garnett and Glen Taylor can't get along and it's just absurd.

There's always one logical thinker in the group. Thank you!

No, it's dumb. He's been there three years. He played the majority of his career for another franchise. Suggesting they will eventually retire Iggy's number is equally dumb. Iggy is a nice complimentary piece on that team. Nothing more. His best years were in Philly

No, it's not dumb. There are other examples of teams retiring a players # who didn't spend the vast majority of a career w/ that team.

Rockets- Drexler (played 4 of his 16 years in Houston)
Lakers- Wilt (played 5 of his 15 years in L.A.)
Heat- Shaq (played 4 of his 20 seasons in Miami)

Not at all.

Won a Finals MVP and a core piece to a dynasty.

You want to take about questionable jersey retirements, look no further than the Heat. All of these guys accomplished less than Iggy while wearing a Heat uniform:

Tim Hardaway
Dan Marino
Michael Jordan

Stop that.

Point is,

Really silly to question the Warriors retiring Iggy’s number. He has proven his value over the years. Warriors probably have 0 rings without him, and maybe 1 if they still land KD (not sure they would have without Iggy).

They're gonna retire all of the Hamptons 5, which isn't really that weird

It would be weird if they retired Harrison Barnes or JaVale McGee.

Not weird to retire a Finals MVP.

There's no denying the importance of Iggy to the Warriors. And it shouldn't matter that he spent more time in the Land of Cheese Steaks. He's a Finals MVP & deserves his # retired.
