but the whole issue is his control isn't solid enough to make it past 6 the majority of the time. he's got electric stuff and is fun to watch, but this is looking like his ceiling right now. if he starts getting hit just a little bit.. all of a sudden he's a guy with a 4+ era going like 5 innings per start.

i just don't see it getting better than what it is right now. so this is his sell high period in my opinion. they sold giles at his peak to get him. now they can sell him at his probable peak and get an even better player. it's just smart business. i'd be pretty shocked if next year resembles anything like this year. i'd expect either arm issues or his era to balloon up, possibly both.

I don't see it, personally. The kid's numbers aren't too far off his minor league stats.

I'd buy "he's an injury risk, sell now". And yes, he does need to improve his walk rate. I just don't know if I see a reason to unload a guy now who's still cheap.

And at this point, they're not playing for anything, and they're trying to limit VV's innings. So I'd expect a 6-inning max from him.

this is exactly why i'd give up velasquez, quickly, with the right deal. it's just the 1st inning and he's already at 25 pitches (not including about 6-7 to the runner on 1st) and only 1 out.

it's another game where he's going to top out around 5 innings, 6 if we're lucky.

Too bad the Phillies today only had 4 capable guys in the lineup and 4 slackers, i.e., Parades, Goeddel, Galvis, Ruiz. Instead of a 2-2 game, maybe we'd have a 4-2 lead, and maybe a win. He gives up 2 ER and a few hits and you're crying. Velasquez is a future super star. Should he have a little more time to prove it?
