Giancarlo Stanton

Stanton was carted off the field after being hit in the face with an 88 MPH fastball.

That's not good. Hope Stanton is all right. He's on the shortlist for NL MVP.

Was it intentional? I know Fiers tends to be......unstable.

I feel for Stanton man. he is an incredible player and by all appearances a really good dude.

This is Fiers first hit batter for the year, so I'm not sure.

Not on the baseball forum. I am not a super mod, just a super cool mod.

;)

worthless Damn Hokie.:yahoo:

Chase Headley was able to walk off the field after being hit in the face just now with a 98 MPH fastball, but the early word on Stanton is done for the year.

From Hardball Talk:
UPDATE: It was ruled that Stanton swung at the pitch that hit him, so his replacement, Reed Johnson came up to the plate and was hit on the hand on the hand when he swung on the very first pitch from Fiers. Casey McGehee, who was in the on-deck circle, apparently felt there was some intent behind it and then benches cleared. Just bizarre. Order was quickly restored and McGehee and Marlins manager Mike Redmond were tossed from the ballgame. Why Fiers is still in this game is beyond me. He’s clearly (and understandably) shaken up. Wake up, Ron Roenicke.
