Hell of a wake up call the first game was, and yet despite playing a FCS team they had better figure some things out fast or be in for an upset they might not recover from.

On the surface EWU looks challenging and rightly so. They are among the top of that level of competition and are 2-0 coming in after thumping some derp team two levels below them by 40 something points. Their QB passed for gaudy numbers and they should be pleased with their progress, but below the surface they are also very concerned. They had 5 fumbles in that game and committed 10 penalties.

They are no Hawaii coming into Husky stadium.

The offense will likely be different this week as Miles is almost certainly going to return to steer the ship. I know most of us are unhappy with the situation that happened around the SB celebrating and many will never like, root, or trust him again. In any event he clearly gives you the best chance to win so be ready to see him back on the field of play next Saturday. It won't be enough to just have Miles at the helm. That line needs to figure out what the coaches want them to do and be much more adept at doing it. While we all want to see more of Ross on go routes taking chunks of yards, you must wear down a defense that is drastically undersized compared to your own in the running game if you want to put your feet to their throats.

Special teams? Jesus coaching staff, start by having the right number of players on the field and getting the damned ball hiked on time. That would be great. And whoever you put back to take punts needs to take at least 50 more reps this week at it. Thanks.

Defense? In week 1 you saw a quality running back and a young QB that had success on 3rd down throws way too much, but they weren't going to the air much outside of that. This week expect your young DB's to have their hands full as eastern will throw it early and throw it often and they will be game planning for those young kids. We will learn a lot more about how ready Baker really is for conference play at this point. The front 7 really needs to take substantial steps forward in this new 3-4 set they are learning.

Really depends on who you blame for game 1 as to whether or not you think this team is ripe for a massive let down upset.

I'm not picking a final score as this thing is anyone's guess at this point. I do expect them to win, but until this staff proves it has those kids, particularly the vets, on the same page as them and working in sync I'm not ready to fully buy into it.

When we talk blame, I'm looking at the OC/QB coach. Jonathan Smith.

He was QB coach for the Broncos and was the main man behind Southwicks development, or lack of depending on how you look at it. He was there for 2 years, came up from Montana.

Frankly I'm not overly concerned with our Ds performance against Hawaii. I would have liked to have seen 3 TDs like UCLAs D, but oh well I think they did fine. Not spectacular but I'm confident in them.

Our offense? Not so much. We lost a lot of key players and I'm not sure that what remains is in the best possible care.

It looked like our guys were in over their heads vs Hawaiis D for most of the game, thats got to change or my opinion of this mans (smith) coaching abilities will further deteriorate.

Simple fix with the OLmen as to making sure they understand who's got who on a double dog blitz, that was Hawaii's success, they fix that and Miles at QB the Dawgs will do just fine this week..

Always gotta keep an eye on Vernon Adams. Kid is an absolute stud. Threw for 5000 yards and 55 TD's last year. And he can move. This guy would be starting for a lot of FBS teams.

Here's a play he made a couple years ago that was nominated for play of the year on ESPN.

GoHuskies breakdown of the game with some interesting facts and back stories of the EWU matchup:

Saturday’s game will kick off at 12 noon PT

Game will air live to a national audience on the Pac-12 Networks with Roxy Bernstein (play-by-play), Anthony Herron (color) and Drea Avent (sidelines) providing the commentary. The Pac-12 Networks will also show 60-minute replays next week.

Washington had five true freshmen play in the Hawai’i game: DB Budda Baker, DB Darren Gardenhire, DB Naijiel Hale, WR Brayden Lenius and PK Tristan Vizcaino ... Baker started at safety ... seven other Huskies made their UW debut: TE David Ajamu, LB Kieshawn Bierria, DB Brian Clay, TB Lavon Coleman, DB Jermaine Kelly, DL Elijah Qualls and OL Coleman Shelton ... Bierria, Kelly and Shelton (all redshirt-freshmen) all started ... thanks to the four straight home games and a bye week, the Dawgs will go 42 days between road games before taking on Cal in Berkeley on Oct. 11 ... there were no turnovers by either team Washington’s game at Hawai’i ... vs. Hawai’i,

Yep Miles and Washington together in the backfield, I like are chances...

Yep. I like it. This is the game where the boys can get right with that offense. EWU is a great FCS program but they arent going to win the FCS title nor the game vs the Huskies. Here's why...their defense is terrible. I watched their first game and it showed me nothing to fear.

They might put some points up, but it won't be enough to keep up with our O, we'll eventually pull ahead and our D will get the stops when needed.

EWU 27
UW 42

I'm writing last week off as an aberration.

While I like the cut of your jib, I do think we saw enough to believe the road back to being as comfortable with their systems as they were last year is going to take far more than one week. They changed the whole base defense to a 3-4 didn't they? That's a substantial difference and something that takes time to get up to speed on.

I do think the Oline should be better and I'd expect a much better running game. No way Eastern can match up with the physicality of that line, or at least shouldn't be able to.

My foots on the gas brother, and like Joey Galloway said today on CFB live you don't take it off until your team losses.

Sure we had all those changes and lost a lot of key players on offense. But for me I saw our O line show up at the end of the Hawaii game and what looks to be a legit running threat. Now we have Miles coming back and we have the team on the field most of us were expecting to see to make this transition smooth. I think it will be.

Pedals to the metal!

Yeah but a lot happened over that year.

We got a coach who I have faith in. I'm like you though and am not sold on Jonathan Smith, wasnt from the get go. But I think Coach Pete probably gave him some wall to wall counseling this past week and his shit will be in order.

At the end of the day it feels good being optimistic for a change. If worse comes to worse I'll just have to accept what most believe that it's not our year, we really shouldn't have thought so but with Coach Pete we will get back, eventually.

I can fall back to that. But for now....

GO DAWGS!!!

The way it should be. Stick to what works.

I'll be there and I expect a much more dominating performance.

Will be interesting to see how up to speed Miles really is (or isn't).
