YTF did Clemmins do that onside kick for the final kick-off?
It's plain stupid.

Three things could have happened:
1 What actually happened: very low percentage play
2 BAMA recovers on the Clemmins side with chance to Hail Mary.
3 Clemmins recovers before ten yards and BAMA has chance for Hail Mary.

The two most likely outcomes are STUPID for Clemmins.

Why not kick a line drive to a fat slow guy or kick a high short one so a fat slow guy fair-catches it like what happened earlier in the game? In which case BAMA would be out of real Hail Mary territory.

Plain stupid.

But I bet you status quo junkies will be defending this tactic because 'it happened to work.'

You're right, it was a profoundly stupid play. Easily the worst decision possible in that situation. Even having your kicker intentionally kick it deep and out of bounds would be a better choice despite the good field position it would give your opponent. (But at least then you would only have to defend a much lower percentage lateral play instead of a potential Hail Mary from the 50 or so.)

I'm guessing that Dabo/staff were under the false assumption that the 1 second would expire regardless of who recovered it (i.e. believing that once the ball is touched by anyone, the clock starts.) However, fact is, the clock doesn't start on returns unless the return team attempts to return it. Maybe now after the fact they've realized that, but at the time one would have to assume that they didn't.

Everyone, including the Alabama players, knew it was over. Even summoning the will to try and fight for the ball there would've taken a miracle.

The motive behind it seems pretty self-explanatory. Clemson lost in heartbreaking fashion to this same team on the same stage a year ago. The tables turn, Clemson wins in an instant classic. Seems kinda natural that you would want to take the dagger that you just stuck in their chest and twist it a little.

Maybe try less nonsensical poetry, and more rational analysis.
