They absolutely do. Given how important preseason rankings can be sometimes in determining how a team finishes, this is the last shot you get to leave an impression and make your case for August.

"At this point"? Like no one ever bickered about any ranking other than #1 before the BCS or #1&2 during. Nothing has changed. Polls are opinions and aren't "earned", and everyone wants to be ranked as high as they can at the end.
