CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco says rookie Joe Williams has gotten off to a "slow start" at 49ers camp.

It's allowed Carlos Hyde to reemerge as the favorite to start, and Tim Hightower to grab a hold of No. 2 running back duties. Early practice reviews on Williams have been mixed to poor. Maiocco writes Williams "is still gaining familiarity with the system," and "must do a better job of securing the football." Practice reports indicate Williams has been fumbling early in camp.

Yep, injuries are mounting. Apparently, Shepard only rolled his ankle, tho.

As to Joe Williams vs. Hyde...it's August 2nd.

CoachSpeak is in full bloom.

I know but fumbling speaks for itself. If Hyde stays healthy, and we all know that's a big if, I don't see anyone out touching him in that offense. Williams is working behind Hightower for what it's worth.

Yes Shepard only rolled his ankle. I saw that after I posted

shit, dude was seen visibly crying over a sprained ankle?
kids these days are fragile

I still make fun of my friend for tearing his ACL/MCL in a soccer game, cause only a weakling would have weak ligaments that can be torn. (he didn't cry, btw)

Looks like Shep is too sensitive to hang with my crowd

I blew my knee out when I was 16 and had to laugh to keep from crying in front of my friends. That said, if I did it today I'd cry like a motherfucker cuz that shit hurt.

Ooooh, the Green Bay Saga will be so interesting this season.

Jamaal Williams earns 1st-team reps for Pack
12298.jpg

ESPN Packers reporter Rob Demovsky calls fourth-round pick Jamaal Williams the "most likely" running back to push Ty Montgomery for snaps.

Packers OC Edgar Bennett -- a former running back himself -- specifically talked up Williams' pass-protection skills, a strength of Williams' at BYU as well. It also happens to be Montgomery's biggest weakness. Bennett said Williams has "earned work with the first team because of his ability to pass protect." Williams appears to be clearly ahead of fifth-rounder Aaron Jones.

Nice that he can pass block and all, but rather have my RB be in to run or catch.

Monty is still the guy. Williams, Jones and Mays will be fighting for second on the field.

The real question is whether the Packers give Monty enough touches
