it is an impossible question to answer because who knows who will be available.

id give a look at Tom Herman, Chad Morris, Kirby Smart and Mike Babo. hard to tell what experienced head coaches would be interested

Not too many with the BS an ND coach has to manage opposed to other major programs. He's the right man for this job, my opinion as of now. We'll see what happens...

Sorta, kinda surprised ...

Report: Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson to transfer - CBSSports.com

Not gonna lose much sleep over this, though. Hopefully Malik doesn't get hurt where we may have needed EG's senior leadership & cool head.

Thanks for the memories ... good & bad, Everett.

Good luck, wherever you wind up.

I tend to agree with this. I think he saw the writing on the wall with respect to Zaire starting and its hard (but not impossible) for a backup QB to get drafted. My guess is that he felt he had to stay on the team through the spring in case he needed summer school to graduate in which case other top teams might no longer be interested. I wanted him to stay as I did like the change of pace options we showed in Nashville, and the comfort in having a proven backup, but I wish him success wherever he goes, as long as its not Texas, or someone else we end up playing. In Nashville, all the LSU fans were saying that they would love to see him go there. That might be his spot.

His leaving will allow us to keep another 5th year player, so that's a good thing.

Ha. I left got home from Mexico two years ago to learn EG was off the team. Today, got home from Punta Cana to find this out.

EG should have won against FSU, Northwestern and Louisville. If he did we wouldn't be having this conversation. Turnovers, especially on the ground, killed him and this team.

He would have been nice having this year though...especially when chasing points.
Dammit. Stay out of the tropics. Or go off season. Lol.

At first I kind of thought ND was being a li'l ridiculous limiting Golson's possibilities, but after thinking about for a minute... he deserves it. He probably shouldn't have been allowed back at all, that probably wouldn't have happened in the 80s/90s. Then after being allowed to return, he spends a year with Curious George and proceeds to commit 22 turnovers, but meanwhile Whitfield swears up and down that he's fixed this kid. Kid gets pulled because he's losing games he should be winning as the starting QB. Kid sees replacement win Bowl game, you figure the fire is lit, nothing more can be down to light his competitive fire. Kid transfers. Kid does not likely go on to have stellar pro-career. What fucking sitcom is Golson watching? I think the kid would could be a stud WR if he could make the move, but QB is probably not going to happen beyond what has already happened for him already. Dude played the NC game and lost. Doesn't look like he got better since then, the competition is just as strong or stronger and his #s aren't improving... likely peaked as high as he's going to.

Honestly anyone on Notre Dame's schedule prior to post season is the only limitation they should put on him if they do at all.

Which from what I've read is the only limitation they are putting on Golson teams on next years schedule, he really can't complain about that. Also SEC rules could stop a transfer so that could limit him to ACC teams Notre Dame doesn't play for major programs down south.

Virginia Tech might be a good fit for him.

I want him to go to a school that needs more than a decent quarterback to win. I don't want him to go to Florida State, Georgia, Alabama, etc. Let him go to a team that won't be in contention for the playoffs.

The issue with the SEC is he has to get a waiver because he is only a one year transfer and he had the academic issue and they don't usually except transfers that had disciplinary action at prior school.

Well it would be funny if he transferred to FSU and didn't get the starting spot.

I hope he goes to FSU and wins a National Title. If ND doesn't win it.

I can't say I hope he wins the National Title until Notre Dame has no chance.

It's Florida State, good luck to him if Notre Dame were playing them I would wish him to have a similar game to one of his end of last season games, but they aren't so hopefully he has a good season and improves his draft stock.

He picks FSU. I guess it was a easy pick. They just lost their QB and he can take really easy courses now.
